Le Feste quinquennali trovano la loro origine in un voto sciolto, a quanto riferisce lo storico Francesco Antonio Bocchi (in una notizia molto scarna), “nel tifo del 1717”. A tutt’oggi, nonostante si siano promosse ricerche in Archivi e Biblioteche specializzate, non è stato possibile individuare documenti in grado di illustrare in maniera più approfondita questa particolare forma di devozione mariana. Culto tuttavia ancor oggi molto radicato nel cuore degli Adriesi, che di generazione in generazione si tramandano questa fede.

Il libro prende in esame la vita di Giovanni Marinelli, personaggio assai noto nelle cronache del Ventennio fascista e protagonista nel Polesine di quel tempo. Marinelli, che iniziò la sua carriera politica da socialista, come del resto fu anche per Mussolini, lasciò Adria (sua città natale) nel 1911 per trasferirsi a Milano, dove entrò subito in contatto con il forte gruppo dei polesani che risiedevano nella capitale lombarda, trovando lavoro presso una società finanziaria dalla quale poi passò alle dipendenze della Società Umanitaria, organismo di emanazione sindacale. Entrato in contatto con Mussolini e divenuto squadrista della prima ora, divenne la sua “ombra” e Mussolini lo ricompensò in più occasioni, manifestandogli amicizia e stima anche quando, con il delitto Matteotti, venne allo scoperto la sua responsabilità di mandante della squadra punitiva. Del P.N.F. divenne Segretario amministrativo e in quell’incarico gestì dal 1926 in poi un grande potere. Ma in seguito al voto favorevole espresso durante il Gran Consiglio del Fascismo il 25 luglio 1943, fu fucilato come traditore dopo il processo di Verona in un freddo mattino di gennaio del 1944. Le colpe degli uomini restano, ma resta anche ciò che di concreto essi hanno lasciato. Percorrendo la “carriera” del gerarca, l’autore approfondisce la conoscenza di una società polesana per certi aspetti inedita, economicamente vivace, persino poco propensa a rimanere fedele agli ordini del duce. Marinelli, considerato da Bottai il più fedele degli uomini di Mussolini, ha lasciato in eredità al Polesine opere grandiose che, certamente non per sua colpa, non furono più portate a compimento. Si può dire che il profilo di quest’uomo controverso sia ancora in buona parte da scoprire. Con l’appoggio di testimonianze e documenti d’archivio, il lavoro di Aldo Rondina si propone di esplorare gli eventi che hanno coinvolto l’Italia, e più in particolare il Polesine, negli anni della dittatura fascista. La presentazione del libro è affidata a Luigi Contegiacomo, direttore dell’Archivio di Stato di Rovigo.

Il libro curato da Claudio Modena prende in esame la figura di Pasquale Galliano Magno, noto come “L’avvocato di Matteotti” per aver difeso la famiglia del deputato socialista ucciso dai fascisti nel primo processo che si tenne a Chieti. Il 10 giugno 1924 Giacomo Matteotti fu barbaramente assassinato da un commando della Ceka, composto da cinque sicari capeggiati da Amerigo Dumini. I cinque furono rinviati a giudizio davanti alla Corte di Assise di Roma, per rispondere di correità nell'omicidio. Il testo del curatore Claudio Modena è preceduto dalle prefazioni di Mauro Canali e di Angelo G. Sabatini, presidente della Fondazione “Giacomo Matteotti” e seguito dagli interventi degli studiosi Filippo Paziente e Nicola Palombaro.
