I do not think forms occur which are peculiar to the Gulf of Siam; if so, they may possibly be some of the species of the Mangrove fauna (e. G. Lucina daiii but I do not belleve even these to be peculiar to the Gulf of Siam, they can without doubt be found also in other similar localities in Indian waters. Excerpt from Marine Algae of New England: And Adjacent Coast This report is intended, with the exception of the Diatombs, to include all the marine species at present known to occur on the coast of the United States from New Jersey to Eastport, Me., and a few species are mentioned which, although they have not yet been found within our limits. Are nevertheless to be expected from the fact that they occur on the neighboring coast of the British provinces. In preparing the report I have attempted to present, in a compact and more or less popular form, a description of the different orders and species of sea-weeds, so that persons who frequent the coast of New England, and especially those in the service of the Fish Commission, may have at hand the means of determining the forms found in our waters. The descriptive portion of the report is preceded by a short account of the general structure and classification of sea-weeds, which is necessary in the present case, because there is no generally accessible book in the English language which gives a good account of the modern views of the classification and structure of algae. In the descriptions of the various groups and in the natural key free use has been made of current works, especially those of Engler and Prantl (1897 De Toni (1889 and Collins (1909, The descriptions of the species, however, are based in part on specimens observed by the author, includ ing those found at Beaufort and those in American herbaria which were accessible to him. In using the artificial key to genera and the keys to species, it should be borne in mind that these have been prepared for the particular genera and species mentioned in this work, and if used for alga of other regions may lead the student astray. Even in this region these keys may cause confusion if genera and species other than those mentioned should be found. A collector should, therefore, always carefully compare his specimens with the descriptions before venturing to assign them names. The gross measurements of the size of species should not be taken too strictly, the figures given being the limits of specimens observed by the author or for which a record has been seen. Als ich im August v. J in der höflicbsten Form anfragte, ob ich also sicher auf den Bericht werde rechnen konnen, erhielt ich weder auf dieses Schreiben noch auf drei weitere, die ich bis Anfang 1894 folgen liefs, je irgendeine Antwort von dem genannten Herrn, ge schweige denn eine Zeile eines Berichts.
