Mario Martone (Napoli, 1959) esordiva nel lungometraggio dopo una già lunga esperienza teatrale, iniziata nel lontano 1977, che non avrebbe mai abbandonato. Innumerevoli le performance, le installazioni, le regie teatrali, le opere liriche, il lavoro per la radio, il videoteatro, i documentari, le direzioni dei teatri stabili. Un corpo produttivo impressionante, testimonianza di una delle carriere artistiche più prolifiche, feconde, aperte e curiose che il nostro Paese abbia mai espresso. Nella storia del cinema italiano il caso Martone è unico. Pur non essendo mancati i registi che dividevano il loro lavoro con la scena, non si era mai visto uno scambio così inarrestabile, rigenerante.
