Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, was one of the most powerful women of her era. Born in 1721 in a relatively humble milieu to a father whose identity has never been confirmed, she married a man who was possibly her cousin. At the age of 24, through her own intelligence and beauty as well as the scheming of her relatives, she became the official mistress of Louis XV of France. Even though their physical relationship ended after five or six years, she remained the King's confidante and companion until her death in 1764. Jeanne Antoinette Poisson była francuską mieszczką, która wyszła za mąż za szlachcica Karola Wilhelma Le Normant d'Etiolles. Ludwik XV zauroczony piękną Jeanne i ślepo w niej zakochany, nie zważając na oburzony dwór, wywołał skandal i dał Karolowi tytuł markiza w zamian za żonę. Mimo że de Pompadour pochodziła z nizin społecznych, była inteligenta i otrzymała rzetelne wykształcenie, dlatego nie była tylko kochanką Ludwika i jego towarzyszką na licznych przyjęciach, ale także miała duży wpływ na politykę króla, gdyż ten łatwo ulegał jej podszeptom. Leo Belmont (1865-1941) – polski eseista, poeta, prozaik, znawca i tłumacz literatury francuskiej i rosyjskiej. Urodził się w rodzinie żydowskiej. W 1892 został wpisany na listę adwokatów przysięgłych w Petersburgu. Zarówno podczas pobytu w Rosji do 1904 jak i w Warszawie kontynuował działalność literacką i prawniczą. Był m.in. radcą prawnym Związku Artystów Scen Polskich i Stowarzyszenia Autorów ZAiKS. Był autorem kilku powieści. Napisał wiele romansów pseudohistorycznych, które w formie sensacyjnej opisywały romanse koronowanych głów. Zajmował się też judaistyką.
