De par son oeuvre révolutionnaire, à la fois sexuelle et politique, Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957) a nourri la révolte de la jeunesse étudiante et lycéenne de cette époque dans sa contestation de la " société de consommation ". Psychanalyste marxiste inclassable, Wilhelm Reich a été tout à la fois condamné par l'orthodoxie stalinienne, exclu de l'Association psychanalytique par Freud, traqué par les nazis et la justice américaine qui l'envoya mourir dans un pénitencier de Pennsylvanie. Le brillant essai de Jean-Michel Palmier sur Wilhelm Reich éclaire cette naissance du " Freudo-marxisme " dont Reich fut le fondateur. II a été le premier, au nom de Freud, à politiser l'aspiration au bonheur dont la sexualité constitue pour lui l'élément essentiel, mais dont la société capitaliste, par son idéologie et ses lois, rend l'accès quasi impossible. De nos jours, si la " contre-révolution néolibérale " semble avoir relégué cette " révolution sexuelle " aux oubliettes de l'Histoire, l'émergence de nouveaux mouvements de contestation altermondialistes et le renouveau de la pensée critique remettent aujourd'hui fortement à l'ordre du jour l'oeuvre de Wilhelm Reich dans leur lutte contre le nouvel ordre moral.
