Table of ContentsIntroductionDay Trading Bollinger BandsBollinger Bands with RSISupport & Resistance with Bollinger BandsTrend Breakouts with Bollinger BandsTrading Bollinger Bands in a PortfolioFollowing Trading PlanRisk & Money ManagementHypothetical Example of a PortfolioIntroductionJohn Bollinger developed the concept of Bollinger bands in the 1980s. Bollinger bands are volatility bands placed above and below a moving average with a multiple of a standard of deviation. The length of this moving average can vary depending on the time frame of the trader and the sensitivity. The standard for position sizing (daily bars) is generally 20 periods. However for day trading it is suggested to be much less. It can be as little as 10 periods. This is something the individual trader can test depending on their own personal preferences. Volatility is based on the standard deviation, which changes as volatility increases and decreases. The bands automatically widen when volatility increases and narrow when volatility decreases. The robustness of the Bollinger bands makes this indicator applicable to all time frames and all markets. The tightening of the bands is often used by traders as an early indication that the volatility is about to increase sharply. The closer the prices move to the upper band, the more overbought the market becomes, and the closer the prices move to the lower band, the more oversold the market becomes. However markets can stay overbought and oversold for long periods of time. In this short ebook we will discuss various ways in order to use Bollinger bands as far as 1. Day Trading using Bollinger Bands2. Oversold & Overbought with RSI Reversals3. Support and Resistance4. Breakout Potentials5. How to build a Trend Following Portfolio

They consist of three lines that move in conjunction with the price chart: the middle band (typically a simple moving average), and two outer bands that are a specified number of standard deviations away from the middle band. These bands serve as dynamic support and resistance levels, allowing traders to visualize price volatility and potential reversal points. **The Importance of Bollinger Bands in Forex Trading** Bollinger Bands have become a staple in the toolkit of many successful Forex traders for several compelling reasons. They provide valuable insights into price trends, volatility, and potential reversal points. By understanding how to interpret and apply Bollinger Bands effectively, you can: 1. **Identify Potential Entry and Exit Points: ** Bollinger Bands can help you determine optimal times to enter or exit a trade based on price proximity to the bands. 2. **Manage Risk: ** By gauging volatility through Bollinger Bands, you can employ more effective risk management strategies and set appropriate stop-loss levels. 3. **Adapt to Market Conditions: ** Bollinger Bands are adaptable and can be used in various market conditions, from trending markets to range-bound markets. **Purpose and Scope of This Guide** This guide is designed to be your comprehensive resource for understanding and implementing the Bollinger Bands strategy in Forex trading. The Profitability Of A Combined Signal Approach written by Lim Kai Jie Shawn and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with categories.

This article looks at the profitability of a trading rule based on Bollinger bands applied over 1995 to 2012 in 6 different equity markets using large-cap indices (CAC, DAX, FTSE, HSI, KOSPI, NIKKEI). In addition, we also explore the performance of a trading strategy based on a combined signal approach, with Bollinger band signals filtered using the ADX to avoid trending markets. While the trading strategy based solely on these indicators would underperform a buy and hold strategy in most of the markets studied, we find evidence supporting the use of Bollinger bands for tactical trades over short time horizons as evidenced by return distributions with a strong positive skew. When comparing the performance of Bollinger bands with the strategy augmented by the ADX, we find little performance improvement when applied on a systematic basis as an initial filter. However, the ADX can still act as a useful tool when applied on a discretionary basis to limit losses.
