The presentation Masterworks of Architectural Drawing provides new insights into this fascinating genre: a selection of around 120 highlights from the Albertina's important collection of architecture-related works covers a period running from the Late Gothic and the Renaissance to the Baroque and Classicism, to Historicism and Art Nouveau, and continuing all the way to the architecture of the present day. World-famous drawings by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Theophil von Hansen, Adolf Loos, Frank Lloyd Wright, Clemens Holzmeister or Hans Hollein and many others reveal the essence and unique qualities of architectural sketches while also showing painters' compositional takes on and naturalistic perceptions of buildings, architectural ensembles, and cities.

A visual, large-format compilation of some the finest architectural drawings from Sir John Soane's extensive collection. Architectural Drawings casts light on the magnificent architectural drawings of neo-classical architect, teacher and collector, Sir John Soane that are otherwise concealed in archives. This book, featuring artworks handpicked from what was probably the first comprehensive collection of architectural drawings in the world, numbering 30,000 at the time of his death in 1837, celebrates a life spent procuring curiosities. The collection encompasses the hands of Montano, Thorpe, Wren, Talman, Hawksmoor, Vanbrugh, Gibbs, Kent, Chambers, Adam, Clérisseau, Pêcheux, Wyatt, Playfair, Nash and, of course, Soane himself. The quality of Soane’s collection of drawings is scarcely paralleled elsewhere and on account of their fragility, these items are infrequently seen by the public. This innovative book draws together the most exquisite and important works from the collection for the first time, showing the extraordinary connoisseurship of Sir John Soane while also exploring what drove Soane to amass such a collection and the provenance of his various significant acquisitions. This book illustrates the story of Soane as a collector of architectural drawings, but a story which is not normally available to the public, and will provide a sumptuous opportunity to peruse some of the finest architectural drawings in existence.

Drawing After Architecture written by Carolyn Yerkes and has been published by Marsilio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Architecture categories.

Why did early modern architects continue copying drawings long after the invention of print should have made such copying obsolete? Carolyn Yerkes answers that question in a fresh investigation into the status of architectural drawing in the 16th and 17th centuries. Drawing after Architecture: Renaissance Drawings and their Reception investigates the status of architectural drawing after the invention of print, and explores a vast group of 16th and 17th century manuscripts and collections of drawings that are each part of a larger network of copies. Made by French and Italian draftsmen who studied Roman monuments, the drawings contain information about the buildings - buildings that include the most important ancient and modern works, the Pantheon and Saint Peter's - that is not known from any other sources. But the information that the drawings preserve is only part of their value: the drawings also show how that information was recorded, transferred, and analysed by other draftsmen. In the 16th century, survey drawing was the key mechanism through which the material past was understood, and many 16th and 17th century drawings after ancient architecture are extant. Ultimately, this book pursues the nature of architectural evidence, in that it asks how Renaissance architects used images to explore structures, to create biographies, and to write history.
