This unique book explores the details of bonding disorder: the psychopathology of parental attitudes towards forming a relation between the baby and parents. The difficulties in perinatal bonding are one of the most important but unduly neglected issues in the perinatal mental health field. This book introduces the latest knowledge based on unique empirical investigations. As a compilation of papers by Japanese clinical researchers, this book includes conceptual analysis, causes, adverse consequences, and interventions. Each author introduces his or her own original work in addition to ample references from previous studies. The volume will be an excellent resource for researchers, clinicians, and other professionals who support families with infants in the perinatal health field.

Mother Infant Bonding written by Diane E. Eyer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-01-01 with Psychology categories.

Two decades ago two pediatricians published a series of articles and books arguing that mothers and their infants must be physically close immediately after birth in order for their future relationship to develop properly. Their studies were inspired by research on animals - especially goats - showing that they reject their offspring if they have been separated even briefly right after birth. Some child care experts expanded on this idea and proclaimed that mother-infant bonding should be continued for the first year of a child's life. In spite of the fact that the research findings on bonding have now been dismissed by most of the scientific community, women are still told that the need to bond is a reason not to go back to work after having a baby, social workers are taught that bonding is important in preventing child abuse, delinquency, and school problems, and nurses are instructed to guide new mothers through the process of bonding. Guilt abounds among women who are unable, for whatever reason - illness of mother or child, premature birth, adoption - to experience the required period of bonding with their babies. In this absorbing book, Diane E. Eyer traces the history of the bonding myth and explains its continuing popularity despite its demonstrated lack of validity. Most important, she shows how it reflects a disturbing tendency in our society to accept "scientific" research without question - and without awareness that it can be distorted by professional agendas and public demands. Eyer argues that the concept of bonding was developed at a time then hospitals were losing their appeal for many women who wanted to deliver their babies in birthing centers or at home. Hospitalsseized on the bonding idea as a way to make their services more attractive to pregnant women and to reassert medical authority over the birthing process by regulating the bonding procedure. The story of bonding, says Eyer, is one example of the way that the scientific and medical communities have deluded women (and themselves) into accepting dicta based on fiction and not fact.

The Relationship Among Maternal Infant Bonding Spirituality And Maternal Perception Of Childbirth Experience written by Linda Kay Bennington and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with categories.

The beginning of life is an intense experience for both mother and baby and sets the foundation for future interactions. Researchers have theorized that maternal infant bonding begins prenatally and continues on through the postnatal period. Müller (1996) examined that process to determine if prenatal bonding was related to postnatal bonding and discovered that there was only a modest correlation between the two. This led to speculation as to what variables, besides prenatal bonding, could influence postnatal bonding. Klaus & Kennell (1976) noted the detrimental effects of a lack of bonding in terms of abuse and attachment disorders and emphasized the urgency of understanding the process. Thus, an examination of factors that influence the initial attachment after birth is important in order to facilitate the experience for optimal outcomes. The purpose of this study was threefold: 1. Examine the relationship between a woman's perceived birth experience and maternal infant bonding; 2. Examine the relationship between spirituality and maternal infant bonding; 3. Examine the relationship between perceived birth experience and maternal infant bonding. Women were recruited for an internet survey through various childbirth websites, nurses' associations, and perinatal listserv communications. A total of 402 women responded to the survey, which consisted of 67 items in three instruments: Perception of Birth Scale; Spirituality; and Maternal Attachment Inventory. Of these respondents approximately 300 finished the survey completely and were used in the analyses. Slightly more than 190 left extensive comments regarding their experiences. Predictive Analytical Software (PASW 18) was used to analyze data and correlations were run on the measurements of the three instruments as well as a regression analysis. Perceived birth experience had the strongest correlation to maternal infant bonding and was found to have a stronger influence on bonding as well.

A Critical Review Of The Maternal Infant Bonding And Attachment Interventions To Promote Healthy Emotion Regulation In Childhood written by Brianna Scanga and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with categories.

The purpose of this critical review is to analyze current research of maternal-infant bonding and attachment interventions that promote healthy emotion regulation in early childhood. A practical overview of the current research on this topic will be presented, followed by recommendations for best practices in the application of maternal-infant bonding and attachment interventions. Current interventions generally enhance the maternal-infant bond and prevent adverse health outcomes in mothers such as postpartum hemorrhage and depression. However, how these interventions affect the development of emotional regulation capabilities in infants has yet to be comprehensively investigated. Thus, the rationale for the current review is to synthesize the current literature on this topic, with consideration of potential consequences of a weak maternal-infant bond, including the development of infant anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders. Findings revealed that there are several interventions implicated for promoting emotion regulation in children; yet routine postnatal assessment to identify mother-infant dyads at risk for impaired attachment has not been widely implemented.
