It is one thing to read the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea in a book and swoon over the romance of it all. It is a different thing entirely when the myth comes tumbling into your life and turns it upside down. "Be careful what you wish for," warns Alexander Kuprin in this chilling tale of art and obsession.

PSYCHE'S YEARNING: Radical Perspectives on Self Transformation By Gillian Ross Humankind is being called to bring forth a new level of consciousness, a new story around what it means to be human . Gillian Ross has written a rich, evocative book about the journey towards liberation. She emerges from the lived depth of her own sacred autobiography cooked in the knowing of her heart and guided by the great books as read and understood by her wise eyes. It is both the story of us all and the story of your sacred autobiography. Read it and be inspired to realize the infinite joy, obligation and depth of your Unique Self. Dr. Marc Gafni, best selling author, rabbi and teacher of Kabbalah and World Spirituality. Besieged by the messages of consumerism, disillusioned with traditional religion, and faced with the possibility of planetary disaster, our souls are more than ever yearning for purpose and a sense of wholeness and holiness in a fragmented secular world. Weaving her text around the symbolic wisdom of the ancient Greek myth of Psyche and Eros, author Gillian Ross offers personally inspired guidance and inspiration on ways of transcending the pain and limitations of our alienated ego. She invites us to step into the transpersonal domain of the mystic and embrace our identity as a unique expression of a Transcendent Evolutionary Impulse. The Introduction, sets the stage for this with a quotation from the popular Buddhist teacher Sogyal Rinpoche; the aim of life is to embody the Transcendent. It could be said that the rest of the book explores what that means and how it can be achieved. Beginning with her own journey of transformation, including recovery from alcohol abuse, Gillian powerfully conveys the message that an awakened consciousness is no longer the prerogative of the saint or the shaman but a birthright we must all claim if we are to find the collective will to serve the earth community and its myriad life forms with wisdom, compassion and joy. Psyche's Yearning is an inspirational contribution to the growing recognition of the power of meditation as a source of health and wellbeing. Dr Samuel Sagan, founder of the Clairvision School of Meditation. She is the author of several successful relaxation, meditation and yoga CDs and two books on spiritual evolution, The Search for the Pearl and Is There Life Before Death? Gillian migrated to Australia in the sixties. She lives on a 40 acre property of great natural beauty in Northern New South Wales which she is nurturing as a place for spiritual retreats and as an educational Centre for Conscious Evolution. Psyche's Yearning can be bought through on-line outlets such as Amazon Books but can also be purchased directly from Gillian for $20 inclusive of postage anywhere in Australia. The Political Psyche written by Andrew Samuels and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-21 with Political Science categories.

What can depth psychology and politics offer each other? In The Political Psyche Andrew Samuels shows how the inner journey of analysis and psychotherapy and the passionate political convictions of the outer world are linked. He brings an acute psychological perspective to bear on public themes such as the market economy, environmentalism, nationalism, and anti-Semitism. But, true to his aim of setting in motion a two-way process between depth psychology and politics, he also lays bare the hidden politics of the father, the male body, and of men's issues generally. A special feature of the book is an international survey into what analysts and psychotherapists do when their patients/clients bring overtly political material into the clinical setting. The results, including what the respondents reveal about their own political attitudes, destabilize any preconceived notions about the political sensitivity of analysis and psychotherapy. This Classic Edition of the book includes a new introduction by Andrew Samuels.

The Address Of The Eye written by Vivian Sobchack and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-05 with Performing Arts categories.

Cinema is a sensuous object, but in our presence it becomes also a sensing, sensual, sense-making subject. Thus argues Vivian Sobchack as she challenges basic assumptions of current film theory that reduce film to an object of vision and the spectator to a victim of a deterministic cinematic apparatus. Maintaining that these premises ignore the material and cultural-historical situations of both the spectator and the film, the author makes the radical proposal that the cinematic experience depends on two "viewers" viewing: the spectator and the film, each existing as both subject and object of vision. Drawing on existential and semiotic phenomenology, and particularly on the work of Merleau-Ponty, Sobchack shows how the film experience provides empirical insight into the reversible, dialectical, and signifying nature of that embodied vision we each live daily as both "mine" and "another's." In this attempt to account for cinematic intelligibility and signification, the author explores the possibility of human choice and expressive freedom within the bounds of history and culture.

Edgar Allan Poe Poetry Tales Loa 19 written by Edgar Allan Poe and has been published by Library of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-22 with Fiction categories.

The Library of America presents “the first truly dependable collection of Poe’s poetry and tales”—featuring well-known works like ‘The Raven’ and ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’, plus a selection of rarely published writings (New York Review of Books). Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry is famous both for the musicality of “To Helen” and “The City in the Sea” and for the hypnotic, incantatory rhythms of “The Raven” and “Ulalume.” “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Cask of Amontillado” show his mastery of Gothic horror; “The Pit and the Pendulum” is a classic of terror and suspense. Poe invented the modern detective story in “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” and developed the form of science fiction that was to influence, among others, Jules Verne and Thomas Pynchon. Poe was also adept at the humorous sketch of playful jeu d'esprit, such as “X-ing a Paragraph” or “Never Bet the Devil Your Head.” All his stories reveal his high regard for technical proficiency and for what he called “rationation.” Poe’s fugitive early poems, stories rarely collected (such as “Bon-Bon,” “King Pest,” “Mystification,” and “The Duc De L'Omelette”), his only attempt at drama, “Politian”—these and much more are included in this comprehensive collection, presented chronologically to show Poe’s development toward Eureka: A Prose Poem, his culminating vision of an indeterminate universe, printed here for the first time as Poe revised it and intended it should stand. A special feature of this volume is the care taken to select an authoritative text of each work. The printing and publishing history of every item has been investigated in order to choose a version that incorporates all of Poe’s own revisions without reproducing the errors or changes introduced by later editors. Here, then, is one of America’s and the world's most disturbing, powerful, and inventive writers. LIBRARY OF AMERICA is an independent nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1979 to preserve our nation’s literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, America’s best and most significant writing. The Library of America series includes more than 300 volumes to date, authoritative editions that average 1,000 pages in length, feature cloth covers, sewn bindings, and ribbon markers, and are printed on premium acid-free paper that will last for centuries.

In this collection of articles spanning 65 years as a clinical psychologist, Nick A. Cummings selects articles that heralded often far in advance each phase of clinical psychology’s evolution to the present. A pioneer in effecting change, Cummings established the first free-standing professional school of clinical psychology, demonstrated that medical utilization was reduced with psychotherapy, was an early proponent of universal healthcare, fought for the inclusion of psychotherapy in National Health Insurance, established Biodyne, the first private managed care firm for mental health coverage, and battled to maintain psychological services for children against the trend toward medication. This resource will teach not just the history of psychology, but what lies ahead.
