Healthcare institution that handles a number of patients, opinions is often sought from different experts. It demands the exchange of the medical history of the patient among the experts which includes the medical images, prescriptions and electronic patient records (EPR) etc. In order to reduce the storage and transmission cost, data hiding techniques are used to embed patient information within medical images. In medical imaging applications, there are stringent constraints on image fidelity that strictly prohibit any permanent image distortion by the watermarking. Authenticity is another important aspect in medical image watermarking. To overcome the problem of occurrence of artifacts and to produce zero distorted or noise free watermarked medical images; this book presents the technique in which authors used modified difference expansion watermarking using LSB replacement in the difference of virtual border for watermarking of medical images. The Class Dependent Coding Scheme (CDCS) is used to encode the electronic patient record (EPR) data for increasing the embedding capacity. Thus providing new levels to the research in the field of medical image watermarking.

This book introduces medical imaging, its security requirements, and various security mechanisms using data hiding approaches. The book in particular provides medical data hiding techniques using various advanced image transforms and encryption methods. The book focuses on two types of data hiding techniques: steganography and watermarking for medical images. The authors show how these techniques are used for security and integrity verification of medical images and designed for various types of medical images such as grayscale image and color image. The implementation of techniques are done using discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete wavelet transform (DWT), singular value decomposition (SVD), redundant DWT (RDWT), fast discrete curvelet transform (FDCuT), finite ridgelet transform (FRT) and non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT). The results of these techniques are also demonstrated after description of each technique. Finally, some future research directions are provided for security of medical images in telemedicine application.

Medical imaging requires great integrity of content since any change in the image even in a slight amount might affect the diagnosis. Semi-fragile watermarking could be the best technique to provide an efficient image authentication tool for medical images. In this paper, we propose a semi-fragile watermarking technique for the tamper proofing of still images that can tolerate JPEG lossy compression to a predetermined lowest quality factor and rejects any replacement process. We also present comparison performance for the proposed algorithm to eight other common techniques.

This research is proposed the watermarking scheme in tamper localization which is able to detect the location of the manipulated areas and verify the authentic by using the block average intensity. The watermark data for ROI will store in the region of RONI. The embedded watermark allows the image have been tamper can recover and check for the tampering detection. The usage of the block average intensity is one of the popular techniques due to its easy to implementation. In this research, the tamper localization will performed using block average intensity in the tamper watermarking scheme for medical image. The block average intensity and the sub-block average intensity will be used to find out the tamper area by using the authentication bit, parity check bit and average authentication bit.

The Usage Of Watermarking To Store Patient Information And Diagnosis In Medical Images written by Razlinda Abd Razak and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Application software categories.

This thesis focuses on the implementation of medical image watermarking in DICOM. Digital watermarking is the process of embedding information into a digital signal in a way that is difficult to remove. Watermarking methods applied to medical images embedding, an area known as a region of non interest (RONI) needs to be defined on the image to retain the original information. The watermarked image produced should have visual quality similar to its original version. Watermarked image algorithm will be embedding using least significant bit (LSB). LSB is used because of its simple technique. Watermark image consist of RONI where the LSB will embed and store the patient's information and diagnosis. The pixels that will use for embed patient information is 2x2 pixels each of 8 value bits. To embed patient's information and diagnosis, the text will convert into binary using ASCII code.
