This catalogue accompanies the Fall 2005 exhibition that celebrates the flowering of art in medieval Prague, when the city became not only an imperial but also an intellectual and artistic capital of Europe. Scholars trace the distinctly Bohemian art that developed during the reigns of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV and his sons; the artistic achievements of master craftsmen; and the rebuilding of Prague Castle and of Saint Vitus' Cathedral. -- Metropolitan Museum of Art website.

"This volume explores one of the most creative periods in Central European history. At its core is the medieval city of Prague, which became the seat of the Luxembourg dynasty in the 14th century and was fashioned as the political and cultural capital of the Holy Roman Empire. That dramatic change in the fortunes of Prague and Bohemia - from Romanesque roots to Late Gothic heyday and the religious uncertainties of the Hussite era - is examined through fifteen essays written by scholars from Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Poland, Switzerland and the USA. An important place is given to the re-evaluation of Czech medieval heritage in the 19th century, much of it shaped by Josef Mocker's tireless and often controversial campaign to restore and document Gothic monuments. The volume offers important new insights into key buildings such as Prague Cathedral and Karlstein Castle. By bringing together their expertise in architecture, archaeology, painting, stained glass, manuscript illumination, textiles, sigillography and epigraphy, the authors also present a rich and complex picture of connections and influences stretching across the region from the small town of Kosice in the east, to major centres such as Vienna, Cracow and Nuremberg, as far as the royal seats of Paris and London at the western extremities of Europe. Much of that vibrant cultural exchange took place in the climate of economic prosperity that attracted itinerant artists and supported prolific workshops, but some of the most astonishing examples of it came about amidst intense dynastic rivalry and religious strife. This collection is also a lasting record of the British Archaeological Association's conference held in Prague in 2006, the first such meeting east of the Rhine in its long and distinguished history." --Book Jacket.

The Classical Tradition In Czech Medieval Art written by Jan Bažant and has been published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Art categories.

In this volume, Jan Bazant analyses the tradition of ancient Greece and Rome in the art of Bohemia from the 10th to the 14th century. Bohemia is of great interest in this respect because it was never part of the Roman Empire and there was, consequently, no Roman tradition per se. The Classical Tradition in Czech Medieval Art is a scholarly book, the first monographic treatment on this subject: but it is not intended exclusively for art historians. Its unique appeal for the general reader is that it deals with current topical problems of the growth of culture and the relation between art, economics, politics and religion.

The Master Of The T Ebo Altarpiece written by Jan Royt and has been published by Karolinum Press, Charles University this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Art categories.

The Master of the T ebo Altarpiece was one of the most important Gothic artists of the international style art in the European context. Scholarly literature, both Czech and foreign, presents various ideas concerning ascribing particular pieces of art to this unknown figure, the date of their origin and their chronology, artistic ideological points of departure of his work and the reconstruction and origin of the "T ebo altarpiece." Art historian Jan Royt s extensive scientific monograph on the Master of the T ebo Altarpiece is an attempt to answer these questions. The introductory chapters outline the historical events and development of painting in Europe and in Bohemia in the last third of the 14th century, including the spiritual background of the time. The central part is devoted to the artistic and iconographic analysis of works of the Master of the T ebo Altarpiece and works from his workshop and circle as well as importance in the formulation of the "beautiful style." The scholar focused also on the various hypothetical variants of the hypothetical reconstruction of the altarpiece (including drawings). The book closes with a detailed and critical overview of art historians views of the work of this medieval artist. The appendix, including illustrations, summarizing the results of restoration survey of the panel paintings by the Master of the T ebo Altarpiece, is the work of Adam Pokorny. "
