Kitab al-Munqidz Min al-Dlalal adalah kitab yang menarik namun abai dibicarakan secara serius. Walaupun jurusan Aqidah dan Filsafat sudah lama dibuka di IAIN dan UIN, anehnya kitab ini belum juga dibahas secara khusus dan mendalam. Tentu situasi ini sangat disayangkan karena pada kitab ini al-Ghazali mengisahkan perjalanan intelektualnya: dari inderawi menuju akal, dari akal menuju dzawq. Indera memiliki batas, sebagaimana akal juga memiliki batas, lalu dzawq menyediakan penemuan intelektual baru yang lebih luas dari indera dan akal. Sepintas, uraian mengenai batas yang dimiliki indera dan akal seperti dikemukakan Imanuel Kant mengenai batas-batas dari rasio. Sepintas juga pembicaraan ini seperti perjalanan keraguan dari Rene Descartes yang menolak indera penipu seraya hanya mengakui apa yang dihasilkan akal yang niscaya benar. Tapi ketahuilah, Al-Ghazali lebih dahulu dari kedua tokoh filsuf Barat itu. Al-Ghazali (1058 –1111 ), sementara Rene Descartes (1596 – 1650) dan Imanuel Kant (1724 –1804). Maka wajar jika ada yang berpendapat bahwa Descartes meniru al-Ghazali, paling tidak terinspirasi. Bagi saya Kitab al-Munqidz Min Al-Dlalal sangat penting untuk dilewatkan. Untuk itulah, buku ini mencoba menyajikan ulang terjemahan al-Munqidz Min Al-Dlalal sekaligus komentarnya. Metode penulisan yang hanya memberi komentar secara sengaja dilakukan dengan dua alasan. Pertama, pelestarian tradisi ulama yang memilih memberikan sarah atas ulama sebelumnya daripada menyusun pemikiran baru. Tradisi ini semakin lama semakin tergerus dan dilupakan para cendekiawan Muslim modern, buku ini memulainya lagi. Kedua, Kitab al-Munqidz Min Al-Dlalal adalah mutiara, sementara komentar saya hanyalah debu tak berharga. Menyajikan karya aslinya, al-Munqidz Min Al-Dlalal, memberi kesempatan bagi pembaca untuk menikmati pukau kilau mutiaranya.

Numerous studies have been done on Imam al-Ghzali (1058-1111) in almost all major languages.
