Inhaltsangabe:Zusammenfassung: Die Magisterarbeit von Frau Annika Wieckhorst, die auf einem längeren Feldforschungsaufenthalt beruht, behandelt schwerpunktmäßig das medizinische Wissen der Baka, einer vor nicht allzu langer Zeit weitgehend vom Sammeln und der Jagd lebenden Pygmäen -Gruppe im südlichen Kamerun. Weiterhin beschäftigt sie sich mit dem Problem des Erhalts der Biodiversität und dem Schutz großer Urwaldgebiete in der Region sowie mit der Problematik der Integration der Baka in ein geplantes Naturschutzgebiet. In den ersten Kapiteln werden die Zusammenhänge von Medizin und Artenschutz erläutert, Konzepte der ethnomedizinischen Forschung und ihrer Anwendungsbereiche diskutiert, sowie Informationen zur Geographie und Ökologie Kameruns gegeben. Die allogenen und autochthonen Bevölkerungen werden vorstellt und Informationen zur Gefährdung der Waldgebiete durch Holzeinschlag mitgeteilt. Der Hauptteil der Arbeit mit den Ergebnissen der Feldforschung beginnt mit einer Analyse der Krankheitskonzepte der Baka, wobei deren Vorstellungen über Krankheitsverursachung und die unterschiedlichen Typen der Heiler (nganga) beschrieben werden. Dem folgt eine Darstellung der emische Systematik der Krankheitsursachen, um schließlich über die Themenbereiche Krankheitsempfinden und Krankheitsverständnis zur Diagnose und Therapie und Prävention überzuleiten. Der Beschreibung der Techniken, mit denen die verschiedenen Pflanzen und ihre Teile verarbeitet werden, folgt dann die Darstellung der Applikation der so gewonnenen Heilmittel exemplarisch dargestellt an einigen der häufig auftretenden Krankheiten. Weiterhin wird eine statistische Beziehung zwischen den Heilpflanzenarten und ihrer (oft multiplen) Verwendung mitgeteilt. Auch werden den lokalen Pflanzentermini die international gebräuchlichen wissenschaftlichen Benennungen zugeordnet, womit diese wichtige Arbeit eine Grundlage für zukünftige Vergleiche der Medizinpflanzennutzung bei anderen Ethnien in vergleichbaren Waldgebieten des westlichen und zentralen Afrikas liefert.
