V magistrskem delu sem raziskovala trenutno stanje in potrebo po medkulturni mediaciji v Velenju in Celju. V teoretičnem delu sem predstavila teoretična izhodišča o kulturi in medkulturnosti, večjezičnosti ter večkulturnosti v Sloveniji ter medkulturni mediaciji. Naslovila sem področje razvoja medkulturne mediacije po svetu in Sloveniji, predstavila delo medkulturnega mediatorja, zaposlovanje in usposabljanje za medkulturne mediatorje ter nacionalno kvalifikacijo tega poklica. Naslovila sem tudi področje jezika in dvojezičnosti v širšem kontekstu. V empiričnem delu magistrskega dela sem izvedla skupno šest polstrukturiranih intervjujev ter fokusno skupino s tremi udeleženkami. Najprej me je zanimalo, kakšne izkušnje imajo z delom medkulturne mediacije intervjuvani kulturni mediatorji. Nadalje sem raziskovala, ali in kakšno potrebo vidijo intervjuvanci po medkulturni mediaciji v različnih institucijah ter kdo najpogosteje povabi medkulturnega mediatorja. Pri tem me je še posebej zanimalo, čigava je po mnenju intervjuvancev odgovornost za vabilo medkulturnega mediatorja. V zaključnih fazah pa me je zanimalo, s kakšnimi izzivi in težavami se intervjuvanci srečujejo na področju medkulturne mediacije ter kakšne so morebitne izboljšave.

Based on a recently completed project of cultural consultation in Montreal, Cultural Consultation presents a model of multicultural and applicable health care. This model used clinicians and consultants to provide in-depth assessment, treatment planning, and limited interventions in consultation with frontline primary care and mental health practitioners working with immigrants, refugees, and members of indigenous and ethnocultural communities. Evaluation of the service has demonstrated that focused interventions by consultants familiar with patients’ cultural backgrounds could improve the relationship between the patient and the primary clinician.
