Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europas - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 1,0, Universität Vechta; früher Hochschule Vechta (Institut für Geschichte und Historische Landesforschung), Veranstaltung: Die Grabmäler der mittelalterlichen Kaiser, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Thema dieser Hausarbeit ist eine von Otto von Bismarck veranlaßte Expedition des Jahres 1874 nach Tyrus, dem heute im Libanon liegenden Sur. Ziel dieser Expedition war es, die dort bestatteten Gebeine des Stauferkaisers Friedrich I. Barbarossa in den Ruinen der dortigen Kathedrale ausfindig zu machen und in das Kaiserreich zurückzuführen. Der eigentlichen Thematik werden als Einführung kurz die Begebenheiten der Reichsgründung von 1871 sowie die damit verbundenen Probleme der Legitimität des neuen Kaiserreiches vorangestellt. Der erste Schwerpunkt soll dann auf den Motiven Bismarcks, die diese Expedition beeinflußt haben, liegen. Dazu gehört insbesondere eine schematische Darstellung der Verwendung eines Totenkultes zur Herrschaftslegitimation. Die eigentliche Expedition nach Tyrus stellt dann den zweiten Schwerpunkt dar. Auf historischen Quellen basierend werden die historischen Begebenheiten in Tyrus möglichst exakt rekonstruiert. Im Sinne der Multiperspektivität soll anschließend versucht werden, das verwendete Quellenmaterial zu verifizieren. In den Schlußbetrachtungen werden dann weitere Projekte im Rahmen der Mittelalterrezeption aufgezeigt, um so den Bogen schließen und die Legitimationspolitik der ersten Jahre des Kaiserreiches abschließend bewerten zu können.

Johann Nepomuk Sepp (1816-1909) war ein deutscher Historiker und Politiker, der sich Zeit seines Lebens vor allem mit deutscher Geschichte und Kirchengeschichte auseinandersetzte. Zudem gehörte er der katholisch orientierten bayerischen Patriotenpartei an. Als Abgeorndneter im bayerischen Parlament engagierte er sich besonders für die Innenpolitik. Das hier vorliegende Werk dokumentiert Sepps Expedition nach Tyrus, die von Otto von Bismark 1874 veranlasst worden ist, um die Gebeine des Stauferkaisers Friedrich I. Barbarossa ausfindig zu machen und ins deutsche Kaiserreich zurückzuführen.
