Kemudian, perlu kiranya kita menelusuri jejak-jejak tarekat muktabar di Nusantara baik dari perkembangan, pertumbuhan, awal masuk, ajaran, karakteristik dan lain sebagainya untuk memudahkan dalam mengenal, memahami secara mendalam akan esensi dan eksistensi tarekat-tarekat muktabar tersebut khususnya dalam aspek ajaran; amaliah. Sehingga, dari pemahaman yang mendalam itu, seseorang bisa memilih lewat tarekat mana ia mendalami dunia sufistik, mengembara menuju jalan Ilahi hingga sampai kepada kedekatan paripurna. Di antara tarekat muktabar yang penulis lacak dan kaji secara komprehensif dalam karya ini antara lain: tarekat Qadiriyah, Syadziliyah, Naqsyabandiyah, Syattariyah, Sammaniyah, Khalwatiyah, Tijaniyah, Rifa’iyyah, Haddadiyah, dan Qadiriyah wa Naqsyabandiyah. Islam sufistik ingin menorehkan sebuah paradigma yang menjunjung tinggi nilai kemanusiaan, moraliras di samping nilai spiritualitas. Tiga nilai inilah yang ingin disebarkan, disosialisasikan dan diaktualisasikan ke dalam kehidupan masyarakat khususnya umat Islam, agar menjadi umat yang wasathiyah, tasamuh, tawazun, i’tidal, ta’awun di samping istiqamah dalam berzikir, beribadah dan bermunajah. Islam sufistik juga ingin menghapus “kesan” negatif terhadap dunia sufi yang “dituduh” anti terhadap aspek sosial, fokus pada aspek ruhani semata dan sejenisnya. Melalui gagasan Islam sufistik inilah wajah tasawuf akan dikembalikan dan dikuatkan bahwa dalam tasawuf tidak hanya mengajarkan pada satu aspek saja, melainkan mensinergikan-mengintegrasikan satu aspek kepada aspek lain dalam menuju Zat yang Maha Satu.
