First published in 1948, A Man Called White is the autobiography of the famous civil rights activist Walter White during his first thirty years of service to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. White joined the NAACP in 1918 and served as its executive secretary from 1931 until his death in 1955. His recollections tell not only of his personal life, but amount to an insider's history of the association's first decades. Although an African American, White was fair-skinned, blond-haired, and blue-eyed. His ability to pass as a white man allowed him--at great personal risk--to gather important information regarding lynchings, disfranchisement, and discrimination. Much of A Man Called White recounts his infiltration of the country's white-racist power structure and the numerous legal battles fought by the NAACP that were aided by his daring efforts. Penetrating and detailed, this autobiography provides an important account of crucial events in the development of race relations before 1950--from the trial of the "Scottsboro Boys" to an investigation of the treatment of African American servicemen in World War II, from the struggle against the all-white primaries in the South to court decisions--at all levels--on equal education.

I was seeking White privilege in America for the first 40 years of my life. White privilege is a term for societal privileges that benefit people identified as white in Western countries, beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances. Two common examples would be having access to a higher education and premium housing. Privilege can also be emotional or psychological, regarding security, comfort and personal self-confidence, or having a sense of belonging or worth in American society.

As a young child, Lac Su made a harrowing escape from the Communists in Vietnam. With a price on his father's head, Lac, with his family, was forced to immigrate in 1979 to seedy West Los Angeles where squalid living conditions and a cultural fabric that refused to thread them in effectively squashed their American Dream. Lac's search for love and acceptance amid poverty—not to mention the psychological turmoil created by a harsh and unrelenting father—turned his young life into a comedy of errors and led him to a dangerous gang experience that threatened to tear his life apart. Heart-wrenching, irreverent, and ultimately uplifting, I Love Yous Are for White People is memoir at its most affecting, depicting the struggles that countless individuals have faced in their quest to belong and that even more have endured in pursuit of a father's fleeting affection.

The White Guy In The Room written by Douglas J. Patton and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Civil rights categories.

In November 1963, as he mourned the murder of President John F. Kennedy, Douglas J Patton, a recent college graduate, began to understand his mission in life. Months earlier he had tried to ignore the call to duty. It seemed, however, that he could not avoid the impact of America's turmoil and its racism. While he and his friend Terry Ferry were on a ship to Europe, one of their shipmates, an African-American man, received a telegraph, causing his face to be consumed by shock and dismay. Everyone later learned the contents of that note: Medgar Evers, field secretary for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) had been assassinated in front of his own home in Jackson, MS. Those two assassinations-Evers' and Kennedy's-subsequently inspired Patton to act. The White Guy in the Room: A Political Memoir is the story about Patton's journey from a young nave college student from rural Iowa, with little or not knowledge and understanding of African-American history and culture, to a key and seasoned political player in the empowerment of blacks in America. Equally important, he offers an inside glimpse of the strategic roles of whites like him in the civil rights movement. Without many of them, the road traveled by African Americans would have been much harder. Together, whites and blacks sculpted an America of which they can be proud. And so, Patton's memoir is not just his own, it belongs to all of those Americans who rolled up their sleeves and assumed responsibility for creating a remarkable future.

Thomas H. Leforge was "born an Ohio American" and chose to "die a Crow Indian American." His association with his adopted tribe spanned some of the most eventful years of its history--from the Indian Wars to the reservation period?and as interpreter, agency employee, chief of Crow scouts for the 1876 campaign (he was with Terry at the Little Big Horn), bona fide Crow "wolf," and husband of a Crow woman, he was usually in the midst of the action. His story, first published in 1928, remains a remarkably accurate source of historical and ethnological information on this relatively little known tribe.
