Il Convegno MEMORIA FIDEI: Archivi ecclesiastici e Nuova Evangelizzazione, tenutosi a Roma, presso la Sala San Pio X, dal 23 al 25 ottobre 2013, aveva come intento quello di mostrare il ruolo degli archivi ecclesiastici – intesi come luoghi di custodia della memoria della vita della Chiesa – nel contesto delle sfide della Nuova Evangelizzazione. Nei tre giorni di studi, che hanno visto una numerosa e attiva partecipazione di archivisti e studiosi, si è evidenziata la funzione pastorale di questi “giacimenti di testimonianze”, perché la loro fruizione – nella prospettiva della destinazione universale degli archivi ecclesiastici e dell’incomparabile patrimonio storico che custodiscono – permette di attingere alla molteplicità e ricchezza delle esperienze del passato, quali fonti ispiratrici per un nuovo slancio nell’annuncio della “Buona Novella” al mondo contemporaneo. L’appuntamento, organizzato dalla Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede in collaborazione con altri enti ecclesiastici e civili, è coinciso anche con il quindicesimo anniversario dell’apertura alla libera consultazione degli studiosi degli archivi storici del Sant’Uffizio e della Congregazione dell’Indice, avvenuta nel gennaio 1998, per iniziativa e sotto l’impulso del cardinale Joseph Ratzinger, in quel tempo prefetto del suddetto Dicastero. L’iniziativa nasce con vocazione di continuità, come si augurava nel suo saluto inaugurale, S.E. Mons. Carlos Azevedo, Delegato per i Beni culturali del P.C. della Cultura: «Il Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura auspica che la proposta di un foro stabile di collaborazione degli archivi presenti in Vaticano e in Roma diventi realtà e possa servire tutta la Chiesa con atti e orientamenti». Mons. Alejandro Cifres (Valencia, 1960), è Capo Ufficio e Direttore dell’Archivio della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede. Dottore in Teologia e Diplomato in Archivistica, Paleografia e Diplomatica, ha curato e gestisce, da più di vent’anni, l’apertura degli archivi storici del Dicastero alla libera consultazione degli studiosi. Autore di pubblicazioni in area teologica, archivistica e storica, dedica anche i suoi sforzi alla consulenza e collaborazione fattiva con altri archivi ecclesiastici, a Roma, in Italia e all’estero.
