IN MY LIFE is a personal memoir designed to help travelers remember the cities and places they have visited. This book, "North America and South America," is one of the sets of 4. There are 27 maps on the list of North American countries, including Greenland, Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii, which is not part of North America but the 50th state of the USA. South America has 12 countries. In the table of contents, check the box for each country you have seen. Color or highlight the cities, states, or regions you visited. Write down the names of cities, mountains, and other places you saw. I have included two pages of the most visited countries. At the end, count the number of cities and towns you have visited; you will be amazed at the number of places you have seen. There will come a time when we will not be able to travel, but we will have this book to look back on and remember the places we have been. We can share it with everyone: family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In my life, Countries I've Visited allows you to record the number of countries, cities, places, and memories in the palm of your hand. "My mother used to weave aaydans, the Marathi generic term for all things made from bamboo. I find that her act of weaving and my act of writing are organically linked. The weave is similar. It is the weave of pain, suffering, and agony that links us." Activist and award-winning writer Urmila Pawar recounts three generations of Dalit women who struggled to overcome the burden of their caste. Dalits, or untouchables, make up India's poorest class. Forbidden from performing anything but the most undesirable and unsanitary duties, for years Dalits were believed to be racially inferior and polluted by nature and were therefore forced to live in isolated communities. Pawar grew up on the rugged Konkan coast, near Mumbai, where the Mahar Dalits were housed in the center of the village so the upper castes could summon them at any time. As Pawar writes, "the community grew up with a sense of perpetual insecurity, fearing that they could be attacked from all four sides in times of conflict. That is why there has always been a tendency in our people to shrink within ourselves like a tortoise and proceed at a snail's pace." Pawar eventually left Konkan for Mumbai, where she fought for Dalit rights and became a major figure in the Dalit literary movement. Though she writes in Marathi, she has found fame in all of India. In this frank and intimate memoir, Pawar not only shares her tireless effort to surmount hideous personal tragedy but also conveys the excitement of an awakening consciousness during a time of profound political and social change.

I effectively retired on July 15, 2014, after forty-six years of service in the oil and gas industry as petroleum engineer in the US and abroad. The time had come, and it was time for me to look forward to a long-anticipated retirement and quality time with my wife and family. I decided to write my memories to share my feelings and love with my parents, family, and people close to me. It was not my intention to sound selfish or narcissistic when describing myself and my achievements in life. I tried to do it in a biographical way, showing steps to reach goals and destinations. I hope my autobiography helps the reader understand objectively who I am or was in the pursuit of dreams and reality. My memoir consists of various anecdotes and stories of my childhood. The memoir details my very early childhood and teenage years in Colombia, South America, but focuses primarily on my life in the USA. It also includes my struggles with violence, corruption, and the politics of living in a third world country. The book was written in 2016.

Memory In Mind And Culture written by Pascal Boyer and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-08 with Psychology categories.

This text introduces students, scholars, and interested educated readers to the issues of human memory broadly considered, encompassing both individual memory, collective remembering by societies, and the construction of history. The book is organised around several major questions: How do memories construct our past? How do we build shared collective memories? How does memory shape history? This volume presents a special perspective, emphasising the role of memory processes in the construction of self-identity, of shared cultural norms and concepts, and of historical awareness. Although the results are fairly new and the techniques suitably modern, the vision itself is of course related to the work of such precursors as Frederic Bartlett and Aleksandr Luria, who in very different ways represent the starting point of a serious psychology of human culture.

The Idea Of The Brain written by Matthew Cobb and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-21 with Science categories.

An "elegant", "engrossing" (Carol Tavris, Wall Street Journal) examination of what we think we know about the brain and why -- despite technological advances -- the workings of our most essential organ remain a mystery. "I cannot recommend this book strongly enough."--Henry Marsh, author of Do No Harm For thousands of years, thinkers and scientists have tried to understand what the brain does. Yet, despite the astonishing discoveries of science, we still have only the vaguest idea of how the brain works. In The Idea of the Brain, scientist and historian Matthew Cobb traces how our conception of the brain has evolved over the centuries. Although it might seem to be a story of ever-increasing knowledge of biology, Cobb shows how our ideas about the brain have been shaped by each era's most significant technologies. Today we might think the brain is like a supercomputer. In the past, it has been compared to a telegraph, a telephone exchange, or some kind of hydraulic system. What will we think the brain is like tomorrow, when new technology arises? The result is an essential read for anyone interested in the complex processes that drive science and the forces that have shaped our marvelous brains.
