The Oscar-winning screenwriter of On the Waterfront recounts his life, his career, and “how Hollywood became the dream factory it still is today” (Kirkus Reviews). When Seymour Wilson “Budd” Schulberg moved from New York to Los Angeles as a child, Hollywood’s filmmaking industry was just getting started. To some, the region was still more famous for its citrus farms than its movie studios. In this iconic memoir, Schulberg, the son of one of Tinseltown’s most influential producers, recounts the rise of the studios, the machinations of the studio heads, and the lives of some of cinema’s earliest and greatest stars. Even as Hollywood grew to become one of the country’s most powerful cultural and economic engines, it retained the feel of a company town for decades. Schulberg’s sparkling recollections offer a unique insider view of both the glitter and dark side of the dream factory’s early years. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Budd Schulberg including rare images and never-before-seen documents from the author’s estate.

A homicide detective like no other delves into the mind of a madman in this explosive, page-turning near-future thriller from the author of The Memory Detective. Cole Jones isn’t afraid to die. His whole career has been built on facing death in the most intimate of ways—by taking on victims’ memories to solve their murders. That’s why the tabloids dubbed him the Memory Detective. What Cole’s really afraid of is that the job is going to drive him crazy. With fourteen memory transfers under his belt, Cole might finally be on the brink of madness. After solving a grisly murder that took a huge toll on his psyche, he promised himself he would become a “normal” cop. Then a bomb goes off in New York, and Cole is once again called on to use his unique skills—in a way he’s never been tested before. With a dead suspect and mere days before the next threatened bombing, Cole must use the memories of the murderer to piece together a devious plot. Facing a literal ticking time bomb, Cole must fight the memories battling in his head. If he can’t put himself in the mind of the killer in time, more people will die. But if he can, something inside of him might die instead.

World War Ii In Contemporary German And Dutch Fiction written by Jan Lensen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-04 with Literary Criticism categories.
World War II in Contemporary German and Dutch Fiction: The Generation of Meta-Memory offers a comparative study of the construction of World War II memory in contemporary German, Flemish, and Dutch literature. More specifically, it investigates in what ways the large temporal distance to the historical events has impacted how literary writers from these three literatures have negotiated its meaning and form during the last decades. To that end, this book offers analyses of nine novels that demonstrate a pronounced reflexivity on the conditions of contemporary remembering. Rather than a dig for historical truth or a struggle with historical trauma, these novels reflect on the transmission, the narrative shapes, the formation processes, and the functions of World War II memory today, while asserting a self-conscious and often irreverent approach toward established mnemonic routines, practices, and rules. As the analyses show, this approach is equally articulated through the novels’ poetics, which are marked by a large formal diversity and a playfulness that highlights mnemonic agency, a posttraumatic positioning, and the ascendency of the literary over the historiographical. Based on these findings, this book proposes the emergence of a new paradigm within the postwar cultural assessment of World War II: the generation of meta-memory.

The workforce today is facing ever increasing demands for higher productivity, usually at the severe cost of decreasing quality of work life and private life. Inhibited by limiting beliefs, decreasing motivation and the burden of past negative experiences, many employees have a hard time coping, even with their normal, daily challenges. Motivational speakers come and go, people are "high" for a week or so, but then they dive back into despair. This book addresses this problem, namely how to acheive higher productivity without sacrificing the quality of work life or private life. It also describes how this problem can be solved by utilizing Neuro-Linguistic Programming interventions. The research, which this book is based on, proves that lasting positive changes can be induced in a short period of time, and that a significant increase in work life quality has a profound influence on productivity. This ground-breaking book contains descriptions of the research, the processes utilized, and the results achieved in an easy to read format.
