Selama ini, estetika yang dikenal dan masuk sebagai pelajaran kesenian merupakan deduksi atau teks teori yang secara rasional sistematis metodis dikenal sebagai "deductive aesthetics", sebagai teks yang membutuhkan kontekstualisasi di Nusantara ini lantaran dipelajari dari "Barat". Dengan kata lain, estetika ini teoretis yang berupa abstraksi dari pengalaman empiris penghayatan tentang keindahan yang beragam di Nusantara. Inilah yang dalam nalar dikotomik deduksi versus induksi serupa dengan yang apriori versus aposteriori. Dengan demikian, yang teks atau apriori itu disebut deductive aesthetics. Oleh karena Nusantara merupakan kehidupan yang ragam majemuknya kaya dengan rupa-rupa local genius (cerlang budaya) dan memuat kebijaksanaan hidup lokal (local life wisdom), yang dirawat dlm tradisi lisan, tulis dalam relief artefak, peribahasa, tetarian, drama, mitos-mitos berajaran tentang cara hidup bijaksana dan bahagia. Oleh karena itu, penghayatan hidup dan pengalaman menapakinya menjadi penting dan nomor satu. Contohnya, "ngèlmu iku dadinè jalaran saka laku": ilmu kehidupan itu diendapkan dan dibatinkan menjadi sikap hidup orang, bila dihayati dalam "laku"/praxis. Dalam contoh budaya Bali, deskripsi penghayatan itu dalam berlangsungnya waktu dinamai "kala". Dalam hayatan ruang itulah "desa". Juga, di ranah rasa intuitif dihayati dalam "patra": rasa yang benar-benar dirasa-rasakan (raos-winiraos). Buku Meniti Jejak-jejak Estetika Nusantara ini, me-wedar-kan jejak estetika sebagai yang dialami, dilakoni, dan diproses cipta dalam laku estetis para seniman, komunitas seni penghayatnya, berupa karya agung para mahasiswa S-3 ISI Surakarta yang boleh kita namai "inductive aesthetics". Dari menghayati bermusik, menari, berteater lokal, berwayang, atau bergumul dalam film, ditulislah Estetika Nusantara itu sebagai estetika induktif. Silakan membaca dan menyimak buku ini. Semoga kita diperkaya untuk perjalanan meneliti dan menulis hal yang dinarasikan oleh, dalam estetika di Nusantara ini.
