Pasal 45 UU No. 14 Tahun 2005 tentang Guru dan Dosen mengatur bahwa Dosen wajib memiliki kualifikasi akademik, kompetensi, sertifikat pendidik, sehat jasmani dan rohani, dan memenuhi kualifikasi lain yang dipersyaratkan satuan Pendidikan tinggi tempat bertugas, serta memiliki kemampuan untuk mewujudkan tujuan Pendidikan nasional. Dengan membaca buku ini, akan dapat memahami tugas utama seorang dosen yaitu melaksanakan tridharma perguruan tinggi dengan beban kerja antara 12 (dua belas) sks sampai 16 (enam belas) sks pada setiap semester yang setara dengan 36 jam sampai 48 jam kerja perminggu sesuai dengan kualifikasi akademiknya. Buku ini belum menguraikan bahwa seorang dosen tidak hanya mengajar, akan tetapi seorang dosen juga harus melakukan penelitian dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Dan hal tersebut akan menyita waktu dosen yang bersangkutan. Dengan membaca buku ini dapat memahami bagaimana masalah status sosial, sehingga profesi sebagai dosen merupakan profesi yang memiliki status sosial yang tinggi, karena dosen mengajar ditingkatan pendidikan yang tertinggi.
