Show Me God tells the story of the discoveries that shaped our modern understanding of how the universe turned out this way. Stephen Hawking, NASA leaders, and Nobel prize-winning astronomers talk about how their findings affect everyone's search for answers to questions about ultimate origins, the likelihood of extraterrestrials, why we're here, and the nature of God. New information from NASA's WMAP spacecraft pinpoints the age of the universe and raises new mysteries about its "dark energy." Other 2004 reports from observatories show how galaxies form and detail the accelerated expansion of the universe. Show Me God also continues to be one of the best sources on the current search for extraterrestrial life. This cutting-edge book explores creation where science and religion ask the same questions and think the same thoughts. - George Smoot, head of NASA satellite team. Brings the latest space results down to Earth-a story well told. - John Mather, COBE satellite chief scientist.

In the near future, Earth is depleted of natural resources but peace reigns over the planet. Director of Space Research Joseph Samuels has an important task as he explores the universe. After so many years of silence, Earth’s radio telescopes detect an intelligent signal from a small vessel heading towards our solar system. It’s a miraculous scientific breakthrough, but the signal also begs the question: is Earth in danger from outside invaders? To develop a plan of action, Joseph meets with experts in religion, defense, and science. The plan is set: Earth will send two astronauts in an unarmed shuttle to intercept the incoming vessel. Luckily, the mysterious space probe locks onto the astronauts’ radio signal and makes a connection. A robot named “Interface” contacts the Earth shuttle and explains he has been programmed to be peaceful, but nothing is certain in this brave new world. With information from Interface, the astronauts return to Earth and meet with Joseph. The science gleaned from Interface could change everything we ever believed about space and our place in it. With alien life no longer a theory but a fact, what will Joseph do with this new information, and what long-ranging consequences might his actions set in motion?

Wilbert Smith directed Project Magnet, the Canadian government's official investigation into UFOs. In a declassified memo dated 21 November 1950, Smith writes:"I made discreet enquires through the Canadian Embassy staff in Washington who were able to obtain for me the following information:a. The matter is the most highly classified subject in the United States Government, rating higher even than the H-bomb.b. Flying saucers exist."Researcher Grant Cameron studied Smith for two decades. In 2003, Cameron released "The Wilbert Smith Archives" on CD-ROM (http://presidentialUFO.com). The archives include nearly 1000 pages of scanned documents. "38 Messages from Space" is a remix of selected documents from Cameron's archives. While they have been retyped to improve legibility, an effort has been made to maintain the aesthetics of the originals. The documents are supplemented with my own illustrations.

If we send a message into space, will extraterrestrial beings receive it? Will they understand? The endlessly fascinating question of whether we are alone in the universe has always been accompanied by another, more complicated one: if there is extraterrestrial life, how would we communicate with it? In this book, Daniel Oberhaus leads readers on a quest for extraterrestrial communication. Exploring Earthlings' various attempts to reach out to non-Earthlings over the centuries, he poses some not entirely answerable questions: If we send a message into space, will extraterrestrial beings receive it? Will they understand? What languages will they (and we) speak? Is there not only a universal grammar (as Noam Chomsky has posited), but also a grammar of the universe? Oberhaus describes, among other things, a late-nineteenth-century idea to communicate with Martians via Morse code and mirrors; the emergence in the twentieth century of SETI (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence), CETI (communication with extraterrestrial intelligence), and finally METI (messaging extraterrestrial intelligence); the one-way space voyage of Ella, an artificial intelligence agent that can play cards, tell fortunes, and recite poetry; and the launching of a theremin concert for aliens. He considers media used in attempts at extraterrestrial communication, from microwave systems to plaques on spacecrafts to formal logic, and discusses attempts to formulate a language for our message, including the Astraglossa and two generations of Lincos (lingua cosmica). The chosen medium for interstellar communication reveals much about the technological sophistication of the civilization that sends it, Oberhaus observes, but even more interesting is the information embedded in the message itself. In Extraterrestrial Languages, he considers how philosophy, linguistics, mathematics, science, and art have informed the design or limited the effectiveness of our interstellar messaging.
