Contestualmente al completamento della nuova edizione critica (Meiner, 2018-2022) dei testi delle lezioni tenute da Schopenhauer all’Università di Berlino nel 1820, viene qui per la prima volta tradotta in italiano la parte dedicata alla metafisica del bello. Per Schopenhauer, infatti, il discorso sul bello non può essere un ambito regionale, ma è anzi un momento centrale della riflessione filosofica in quanto tale. Pur riprendendo perlopiù la trattazione del terzo libro della sua opera principale, Il mondo come volontà e rappresentazione, che all’epoca era uscito da un anno, le lezioni, oltre che detenere un profilo di autonomia stilistica dettato dalla destinazione didattica e orale, sono un significativo luogo di elaborazione filosofica. Rispetto alla lunga vicenda del Mondo, che conosce due successive edizioni pubblicate dall’autore (nel 1844 e nel 1859) e dunque notevoli integrazioni, l’estetica delle lezioni costituisce una sorta di cantiere; anche in virtù della finalità per cui era stato pensato, si tratta nondimeno di un testo che, arricchito da molti esempi e lunghi excursus, può essere letto nella sua autonomia come una via d’accesso alla filosofia di Schopenhauer.
