Pembelajaran kooperatif tipe/teknik Jigsaw adalah teknik pembelajaran yang berupa permainan antar kelompok, serupa dengan pertukaran kelompok dengan kelompok, di mana setiap siswa ditugasi mengajarkan pengetahuan baru yang diperoleh dari hasil diskusi kelompok untuk diajarkan kepada siswa lain pada kelompok lain. Ini merupakaan alternatif menarik bila ada materi belajar yang bisa disegmentasikan atau dibagi-bagi dan bila bagian- bagiannya harus diajarkan secara berurutan. Tiap siswa mempelajari sesuatu yang berbeda dengan lainnya yang bila digabungkan dengan materi yang dipelajari oleh siswa lain, membentuk kumpulan pengetahuan atau keterampilan yang padu. Jadi, hal yang menarik dari pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Jigsaw adalah adanya harapan selain memiliki dampak pembelajaran, yaitu berupa peningkatan prestasi belajar peserta didik (student achievement) juga mempunyai dampak pengiring seperti realisasi sosial, penerimaan terhadap peserta didik yang dianggap lemah, harga diri, norma akademik, penghargaan terhadap waktu, dan suka memberi pertolongan pada yang lain.
