„Metodica predării pianului – ediția a doua” a fost publicată la Editura Muzicală în 2021, când s-au împlinit 120 de ani de la nașterea profesoarei de pian și pianistei Gina Solomon. Partea întâi a volumului include Metodica predării pianului de Gina Solomon, inițial publicată tot la Editura Muzicală în 1966. Partea a doua, Gina Solomon - Viața și activitatea profesională, mentorii, colegii, elevii, include portrete de mari pedagogi și pianiști, fiecare cu acel gen de implicare profesională profundă pe care o presupune – și necesită – Metodica predării pianului, precum și amintiri despre Gina Solomon care dezvoltă, prin detalii, exemple, și perspectiva foștilor elevi, ei înșiși acum muzicieni, conceptele din Metodică. Prefața acestei ediții este scrisă de Dr. Carmen Manea, pianistă, muzicolog, conferențiar la Universitatea de Muzică București. Gina Solomon a fost o cunoscută și apreciată profesoară de pian și pianistă din România, cu o activitate începută în anii 1930 și continuată timp de peste patru decenii. A avut ca mentori mari muzicieni români. A predat peste 20 de ani la Liceul de Muzică Nr. 1 din București (acum Colegiul Național de Arte Dinu Lipatti), iar mulți dintre elevii săi au avut apoi cariere de succes. A predat la cursul de pregătire pentru examenul de definitivat pentru profesori de pian și a fost membru examinator în comisiile de examen la specialitatea pian și metodică; materialul acelor cursuri a fost cules si dezvoltat în Metodica predării pianului, care a fost pentru decenii parte din bibliografia utilizată de profesorii din învățământul preuniversitar. În prefața la prima ediție, autoarea spunea: Această lucrare nu este o „metodă” de pian ci... ea vrea să fie un ajutor pentru profesorii de pian în munca lor de predare la școlile generale și liceele de muzică. Ea ar putea interesa și pe elevii din ultimii ani ai acestor licee, precum și pe studenții conservatoarelor care intenționează să se dedice pedagogiei pianului... În prefața la această a doua ediție, Dr. Carmen Manea descrie astfel Metodica predării pianului: Cartea scrisă de eminenta profesoară Gina Solomon prilejuiește un dialog original între trecut și prezent; ea realizează o remarcabilă sinteză a contribuțiilor din pedagogia și arta pianistică românească și universală, trasând în același timp punți ingenioase către viitor. Cartea, care s-a bucurat de mare interes din partea profesorilor de pian și de alte instrumente, își păstrează neștirbită actualitatea. ...Apariția cărții, pe care îndrăznesc să o consider un adevărat Tratat de metodică instrumentală, constituie un îndemn convingător spre studierea contribuțiilor valoroase din patrimoniul artei interpretative și al pedagogiei pianistice românești. Metodica predării pianului se desfășoară pe 10 capitole, structură descrisă în Prefață și acoperind 200 de pagini: I. Pianul și dezvoltarea lui; II. Dezvoltarea metodelor și a metodicii pianului; III. Profesorul și elevul; IV. Mișcările și forțele în cântatul la pian (subcapitole: Fiziologia cântatului la pian; Acțiunea și relaxarea; Percuția); V. Lecția de pian (subcapitole: Principii metodice generale; Primele învățături; Exerciții de degete și brațe; Modurile de atac; Ornamentele; Lucrul cu ambele mâini; Game, arpegii, octave, note duble, acorduri; Digitația; Tușeul); VI. Studiile; VII. Studiul pieselor; VIII. Interpretarea (subcapitole: Frazarea; Dinamica, tempoul și agogica); IX. Pedala în cântatul la pian; X. Studiul individual al elevului, iar în Anexă: Exerciții gimnastice. Lucrarea include și 50 de referințe bibliografice. Urmează biografia profesoarei Gina Solomon, precum și biografii sau note biografice ale mentorilor Ginei Solomon: marii muzicieni și pedagogi Mihai Burada, Muza Germani-Ciomac, Florica Musicescu, Cella Delavrancea, Silvia Șerbescu, Grete Miletineanu și Irina Lazar, precum și ale prietenilor săi muzicieni și colegi apropiați: Yolanda Zaharia, Eufrosina Săvescu, Mira Ghișoiu, Ana Pitiș și Xenia Moscu. Capitolul final include scurte biografii a câțiva dintre elevii profesoarei Gina Solomon, ei înșiși muzicieni cu cariere remarcabile: Nicolae Brânduș, Eva de Geneva, Carmen Manea, Vladimir Școlnic, Manuela Terescu și Zitta Zohar. Împreună, biografiile incluse in partea a doua a volumului redau imaginea mediului muzical și de pedagogie a pianului din deceniile 1920 – 2020 din România, deci prezintă contextul profesional al Metodicii, precum și contribuția pe care un pedagog cum a fost Gina Solomon o poate avea în formarea de mari muzicieni. „Profesorul trebuie să se facă respectat, dar și iubit de elevi, ceea ce este o condiție din cele mai importante pentru reușita muncii lui pedagogice.
