Quando eu era criança ficava horas ouvindo os cantadores, narrando com seus cânticos de viola, as mais lindas histórias, causos, fatos históricos e verdadeiros do mundo inteiro, através desses cordéis, com isso me tornei um grande admirador e fã da literatura de cordel. Meu nome é Daniel Fiúza, nasci no Ceará, mas moro em São Paulo, sempre gostei de fazer poesia, mas só comecei a fazer cordel a cerca de doze anos atrás, incentivado, e ensinado por Mestre Egidio, meu grande mestre nessa difícil arte. Nesse meu livro de cordel, apresento cinqüenta cordéis, têm de tudo, vários estilos de cordel, como Décimas, Setilhas, e Quadrões, entre outros, a grande maioria é engraçado, alguns Safados, Zélimeirianos, inusitados, e uns três ou quatro contos cordelistas completos. Tem pra todos os gostos. Esse é meu terceiro livro de poesia, mas o primeiro sobre a literatura de cordel. Espero que apreciem. Abraços Daniel Fiúza.

The theme arises from the legal-academic movement "Law and Literature". "Relembrando-A Velha Literatura de Cordel e a Voz dos Poetas" really contains three important studies on the "cordel": 1) the revision and translation of Curran's PhD dissertation from 1968; 2) the augmentation of one of the chapters of the dissertation, treating Brazil's best known and pioneering poet Leandro Gomes de Barros; 3) the publication of a now historic series of interviews with forty "cordel" poets and publishers in the late 1970s. Curran dedicates much time and energy to this endeavor because he believes the researches were little known in their original form, and more importantly, with the passage of time and the evolution of the "cordel" and Brazil in general, they now remain as historic documents in Brazil's national cultural history.
