Global Perspectives on Digital Literature: A Critical Introduction for the Twenty-First Century explores how digital literary forms shape and are shaped by aesthetic and political exchanges happening across languages and nations. The book understands "global" as a mode of comparative thinking and argues for considering various forms of digital literature—the popular, the avant-garde, and the participatory—as realizing and producing global thought in the twenty-first century. Attending to issues of both political and aesthetic representation, the book includes a diverse group of contributors and a wide-ranging corpus of texts, composed in a variety of languages and regions, including East and South Asia, parts of Europe, Latin America, North America, Australia, and Western Africa. The book’s contributors adopt an array of interpretive approaches to make visible new connections and possibilities engendered by cross-cultural encounters. Among other topics, they reflect on the shifting conditions for production and distribution of literature, participatory cultures and technological affordances of Web 2.0, the ever-changing dynamics of global and local forces, and fundamental questions, such as, "What do we mean when we talk about literature today?" and "What is the future of literature?"

Six Faces Of Globalization written by Anthea Roberts and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-28 with Political Science categories.

A Financial Times Best Book of the Year A Fortune Best Book of the Year A ProMarket Best Political Economy Book of the Year An essential guide to the intractable public debates about the virtues and vices of economic globalization, cutting through the complexity to reveal the fault lines that divide us and the points of agreement that might bring us together. Globalization has lifted millions out of poverty. Globalization is a weapon the rich use to exploit the poor. Globalization builds bridges across national boundaries. Globalization fuels the populism and great-power competition that is tearing the world apart. When it comes to the politics of free trade and open borders, the camps are dug in, producing a kaleidoscope of claims and counterclaims, unlikely alliances, and unexpected foes. But what exactly are we fighting about? And how might we approach these issues more productively? Anthea Roberts and Nicolas Lamp cut through the confusion with an indispensable survey of the interests, logics, and ideologies driving these intractable debates, which lie at the heart of so much political dispute and decision making. The authors expertly guide us through six competing narratives about the virtues and vices of globalization: the old establishment view that globalization benefits everyone (win-win), the pessimistic belief that it threatens us all with pandemics and climate change (lose-lose), along with various rival accounts that focus on specific winners and losers, from China to America’s Rust Belt. Instead of picking sides, Six Faces of Globalization gives all these positions their due, showing how each deploys sophisticated arguments and compelling evidence. Both globalization’s boosters and detractors will come away with their eyes opened. By isolating the fundamental value conflicts—growth versus sustainability, efficiency versus social stability—driving disagreement and showing where rival narratives converge, Roberts and Lamp provide a holistic framework for understanding current debates. In doing so, they showcase a more integrative way of thinking about complex problems.

With a wink to tradition and a nod to semantics, Heikki Huotari's lively prose poems shatter our expectations of what can possibly occur within each small windowpane of language. The work of these deft, musical pieces is to reinvent both the poem and prose itself, all while referencing a scientific theory or name-dropping Santa. Over and over we find Huotari's mesmerizing speaker world-reporting on the comically urgent, on the seriously absurd.

Cultural organizations are entering an era of significant challenges. Rising operating costs, unpredictable funding sources, stagnant membership, and an increasingly competitive landscape for leisure activities indicate that these institutions have reached a critical juncture: what has worked for them in the past will not work going forward. At the same time, massive shifts in demographics and lifestyles are driving changes in consumer behavior that threaten the survival of the traditional membership business model. Drawing from a wide range of research spanning the disciplines of behavioral economics, philanthropy, and social psychology, author and museum consultant Rosie Siemer explores the trends shaping the future of cultural organizations and offers innovative strategies designed to help them survive—and thrive—in today’s rapidly changing marketplace. Using museums as the primary subject matter of her research, Siemer analyzes the challenges and opportunities for membership as a means of engaging existing members, cultivating new audiences, and keeping museums on track for sustainable revenue. Tapping into the principles of design thinking and the lean startup methodology, Siemer provides a fresh perspective into how museum leaders can adapt systems, roles, and metrics to encourage experimentation, collaboration, and agility within their organizations. “Change is required for museums to keep ahead of the curve and remain competitive,” Siemer writes. “Thankfully, the time for taking steps to evolve has never been better. New research, bold experiments, and pioneering leaders have helped to usher in an era of fresh thinking that challenges the status quo of the traditional membership model.” Loaded with thought-provoking insights, innovative case studies, and practical applications for audience development, marketing, and membership, Museum Membership Innovation offers museum leaders a framework for reimagining membership with an empathy-first approach that prioritizes the needs of audiences.

Corporatizing American Health Care written by Robert W. Derlet and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-02 with Medical categories.

Tracking the evolution of medical care from an individualized small cottage profession to a giant impersonal corporate industry costing Americans over $3 trillion each year. Over the past three decades, the once-efficient American health care system has evolved into a complex maze of monopolies and a racket of bureaucratic checks, approvals, denials, roadblocks, and detours. This shift has created a massive and at times redundant workforce that frustrates patients, as well as physicians, nurses, and administrative staff. Health care costs the United States over $3 trillion each year and consumes over 18% of the country's gross domestic product. That's more than $11,000 for each person in the country each year—more than double what it costs in most Western European countries to deliver equal or even better care. In Corporatizing American Health Care, Robert W. Derlet, MD, traces the progression of health care policy in the United States. How, he asks, has US health care transformed from bedside medicine—a model of small practices and patient-focused care—into corporate medicine, which prioritizes profit and deals with both patient care and outcomes as billing codes? Arguing that the US Congress is the root of the problem, he describes how Congress has failed to enact legislation to prevent corporate monopolies in the health care industry. Instead, corrupted by large campaign donations and corporate lobbyists, Congress has crafted loopholes benefiting corporations and harming people. Drawing on his decades as a practicing physician caring for thousands of patients, as well as his university and medical school teaching experience, Derlet follows changes to both policy and practice across many sectors of health care. Scrutinizing how hospitals work, he also takes a hard look at high prescription drug prices, unresponsive insurance companies, problems with the Affordable Care Act, the growing medical implant device industry, and even nursing homes. Finally, he explains why the dominance of corporations and their lobbyists over health policy means that we now pay more for our care and our medications but have less choice both in what doctors we see and in what drugs we take. Breaking down the complex ABCs of health care to reveal the unscrupulous practices of the health care industry, Corporatizing American Health Care is perfect for both students and general readers who want to understand the changes in our system from the perspective of an actual doctor.
