Das gewählte Thema entstammt dem Alten Testament und lautet Micha 3, 5-8 wahre und falsche Propheten. Das Wort Prophetie bedeutet, in die Zukunft zu schauen. Die alttestamentarischen Propheten waren von Gott inspiriert. Er ließ sie in die Zukunft blicken und gab ihnen den Auftrag, das Kommende zu verkünden. Des Weiteren prangerten die Propheten auch das gegenwärtige Übel an. Die von den Propheten vorhergesagte Zukunft war fast ausschließlich düster, und zwar deshalb, weil die Israeliten der Sünde verfallen waren, als sie den von ihrem Gott verlangten Monotheismus aufgaben. Die Anprangerung der Sünden stellte einen großen Teil der Botschaft der Propheten dar, wobei die Sünden religiöser, moralischer oder sozialer Art sein konnten. Die Propheten waren die wichtigsten Wahrer des Monotheismus in Israel, was am Anfang bedeutete, dass die Israeliteten keinen anderen Gott als den ihren verehren durften. Später wandelte sich dies dahingehend, dass es außer dem eigenen keinen anderen Gott mehr gab. Das Buch Micha ist ein Teil des Zwölfprophetenbuches. Es steht an sechster Stelle im Dodekapropheton. Die anderen, so genannten, kleinen Propheten sind Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadja, Jona, Nahum, Habakuk, Zefanja, Haggai, Sacharja und Maleachi. Zusammen mit den so genannten "großen Propheten", nämlich Jesaja, Jeremia und Ezechiel, ist die Rede, wenn vom Gesetz und den Propheten als der für die Juden verbindlichen Richtschnur für ein rechtmäßiges Leben gesprochen wird. Die Bücher im Dodekapropheton sind epochal eingeteilt . Die ersten sechs Propheten werden in das 8. Jh., die dann folgenden drei Propheten in das ausgehende 7. Jh. und die letzten drei in das ausgehende 6. Jh. eingeordnet.

The Literary Coherence of the Book of Micah puts forth a framework to understand the nature of literary coherence. This enables an analysis of the sources and dimensions of the coherence found in the book of Micah by the primary scholarly proposals for understanding the structure and connectedness of the whole book. Each of these proposals ultimately fails to account for all the features found in the text. The author then explains a new reading of the final form of the text of Micah, based on the placement of the references concerning the remnant. A brief exposition of the text as a canonical whole indicates the flow and development in the final form of the book. The framework formulated earlier provides a basis to evaluate the coherence that this understanding of the book of Micah uncovers and to show that this means of reading the canonical book best accounts for the greatest number of features in the text.

The book focusses on the origin and transformation of the priestly festival calendar. Since the epoch-making work of Julius Wellhausen at the end of the 19th century the differences between the various ancient Israelite festival calendars have often been explained in terms of a gradual evolution, which shows an increasing historicisation, denaturalisation and ritualisation. The festivals were in Wellhausen's view gradually detached from agricultural conditions and celebrated more and more at fixed points in the year. This study tries to show that the changes in the priestly festival calendar reflect a conscious effort to adapt the ancient Israelite festival calendar to the semi-annual layout of the Babylonian festival year. The ramifications of the change only come to the fore after a careful study of the agricultural conditions of ancient Israel - and Mesopotamia - makes clear that passover and the festival of unleavened bread were originally celebrated in the second month of the year. The first month of the year envisaged by the priestly festival calendar for the celebration of passover and the festival of unleavened bread in turn mirrors the date of one of the two semi-annual Babylonian New Year festivals. The two Babylonian New Year festivals were celebrated exactly six months apart at the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. In order to adapt the ancient Israelite festival calendar to the Babylonian scheme with two New Year festivals a year, the date of passover and the festival of unleavened bread had to be moved up by one month. The consequences for the origin of passover, the festival of unleavened bread, the festival of weeks and the festival of huts are charted and the relations between the various ancient Israelite festival calendars are determined anew.
