Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 1,0, Freie Universit t Berlin (Otto-Suhr-Institut f r Politikwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Zeitgen ssische Demokratietheorien, 24 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit hat das Ziel, am Beispiel zweier bedeutender Autoren das breite Spektrum an Denkans tzen aufzuzeigen, welche jene Str mung der politischen Theorie hervorgebracht hat, die unter dem Oberbegriff 'Kommunitarismus' zusammengefasst wird. Dabei wird von der These ausgegangen, dass Sandel eine antiliberale, Walzer hingegen eine proliberale Position vertritt. Nach einem einf hrenden berblick ber die wesentlichen Grundprinzipien des kommunitaristischen Denkens werden zun chst die kritischen, anschlie end die konstruktiven Denkans tze der beiden Autoren vergleichend untersucht. Hinsichtlich der kritischen berlegungen stellt sich heraus, dass die Kritik sich bei Sandel auf den Liberalismus im Allgemeinen, bei Walzer jedoch nur auf eine radikalere Str mung des Liberalismus, einen 'Superliberalismus' bezieht. Bei der Betrachtung der konstruktiven Ans tze wird deutlich, dass Sandel auf ein gesamtstaatliches, auf politischem Handeln basierendes, republikanisches Modell abzielt, w hrend Walzer f r ein dezentrales, auf sozialem Handeln basierendes, zivilgesellschaftliches Modell eintritt. Es wird deutlich, dass Sandels Ansatz im Vergleich zu Walzer zwar eine deutlich st rkere Distanz zum Liberalismus aufweist, aber angesichts seiner Vorstellungen von demokratischer Selbstregierung freier B rger keineswegs als antiliberal zu bezeichnen ist. Die Ausgangsthese kann in ihrer polarisierenden Sch rfe somit nicht vollauf best tigt werden.

Anliegen dieses Buches ist es, das politische Denken des amerikanischen Theoretikers Michael Walzer systematisch zu rekonstruieren. Statt einer vorgängigen Zuordnung Walzers zu "Kommunitaristen" oder "Liberalen" wird seine politische Philosophie aus ihrem inneren Zusammenhang heraus verstanden. Das Einleitungskapitel wendet sich Walzers Sicht der gegenwärtigen Aufgabe einer in der Tradition der demokratischen Linken stehenden politischen Theorie zu, wie er sie noch vor dem Ausbruch der Kommunitarismusdebatte dargestellt hat. Walzers selbstgestecktes Ziel, trotz des Verzichtes auf ein gesellschaftstheoretisch oder moralphilosophisch abgesichertes Fundament zur Formulierung einer "kohärenten Perspektive" zu gelangen, wird als theoretischer Ausgangspunkt der folgenden Überlegungen genommen. Inhaltlich wird bei Walzers Plädoyer für eine an der moralischen Alltagserfahrung orientierte Gesellschafts- und Herrschaftskritik sowie für eine egalitäre Politik der Gemeinschaft angesetzt. Im ersten Teil wird der metatheoretische Standpunkt Walzers analysiert, das heisst seine Vorstellung von einer interpretativ verfahrenden politischen Philosophie und Gesellschaftskritik sowie seine Sicht des moralischen Universalismus. Der zweite Teil behandelt Walzers Stellungnahmen zu zentralen Problemen, Begriffen und Konzepten der politischen Theorie wie "politische Gemeinschaft", "Krieg und Frieden", "Liberalismus", "Demokratie" und "zivile Gesellschaft". Gegenstand des dritten Teils ist Walzers Gerechtigkeitstheorie. Abschließend fragt der Autor nach der Bedeutung Walzers im Rahmen der politischen Philosophie der Gegenwart.

Language does not merely describe; it constitutes meaning and fundamentally shapes human experience. The human linguistic capacity is not something we innately possess.
