English summary: Property theories are usually based on the conflict between the individual and society. Governments in the 19th century resolved this conflict principally by acting in favor of the freedom of the individual to enforce his property rights. Lawyers working during the eras of fascism and National Socialism tried to work out alternative property concepts and to adapt the law to the political goals of the regimes. Thorsten Keiser analyzes the lawyers' attempts to reshape property law to resolve the conflict between the social function of the law and the need to take advantage of the economic potential of private property. He then examines the fundamental differences between the various German and Italian concepts of property.

The Nazi War On Cancer written by Robert Proctor and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-05 with History categories.

Collaboration in the Holocaust. Murderous and torturous medical experiments. The "euthanasia" of hundreds of thousands of people with mental or physical disabilities. Widespread sterilization of "the unfit." Nazi doctors committed these and countless other atrocities as part of Hitler's warped quest to create a German master race. Robert Proctor recently made the explosive discovery, however, that Nazi Germany was also decades ahead of other countries in promoting health reforms that we today regard as progressive and socially responsible. Most startling, Nazi scientists were the first to definitively link lung cancer and cigarette smoking. Proctor explores the controversial and troubling questions that such findings raise: Were the Nazis more complex morally than we thought? Can good science come from an evil regime? What might this reveal about health activism in our own society? Proctor argues that we must view Hitler's Germany more subtly than we have in the past. But he also concludes that the Nazis' forward-looking health activism ultimately came from the same twisted root as their medical crimes: the ideal of a sanitary racial utopia reserved exclusively for pure and healthy Germans. Author of an earlier groundbreaking work on Nazi medical horrors, Proctor began this book after discovering documents showing that the Nazis conducted the most aggressive antismoking campaign in modern history. Further research revealed that Hitler's government passed a wide range of public health measures, including restrictions on asbestos, radiation, pesticides, and food dyes. Nazi health officials introduced strict occupational health and safety standards, and promoted such foods as whole-grain bread and soybeans. These policies went hand in hand with health propaganda that, for example, idealized the Führer's body and his nonsmoking, vegetarian lifestyle. Proctor shows that cancer also became an important social metaphor, as the Nazis portrayed Jews and other "enemies of the Volk" as tumors that must be eliminated from the German body politic. This is a disturbing and profoundly important book. It is only by appreciating the connections between the "normal" and the "monstrous" aspects of Nazi science and policy, Proctor reveals, that we can fully understand not just the horror of fascism, but also its deep and seductive appeal even to otherwise right-thinking Germans.

The Finest Colors For Artists written by Jorge Lesczenski and has been published by National Geographic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-09 with Art categories.

A truly colorful history of the finest manufacturer of artists’ paint: H. Schmincke & Co. Since its founding in 1881, H. Schmincke & Co has been a premier producer of artists’ paints. Artists such as Otto Dix, Emil Nolde and Oskar Kokoschka relied on Schmincke colors, as do many of today’s professional and amateur painters. This history of the company traces its development over four generations. It tells the story of H. Schmincke’s modest beginnings at the end of the 19th century and their first product: oil paint. During an era of unprecedented artistic achievement in Europe and America, the company added watercolors and pastels to its acclaimed line of products. This book also takes readers through the struggles of the Jewish owners during the Third Reich, and how the family rebuilt the company after its buildings were destroyed in the Second World War. Since then, the company experienced a successful expansion during the post-war decades as well as a downturn caused by the collapsing economy and family issues. Now in its fourth generation of ownership, H. Schmincke is thriving amidst global challenges and opportunities. Beautifully illustrated with artistic and archival images, this is a unique look behind the scenes of a company that has been committed to excellence in manufacturing - and to a rich engagement with the art world - for nearly 150 years.

The Nazi Persecution Of The Gypsies written by Guenter Lewy and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-01-13 with History categories.

Roaming the countryside in caravans, earning their living as musicians, peddlers, and fortune-tellers, the Gypsies and their elusive way of life represented an affront to Nazi ideas of social order, hard work, and racial purity. They were branded as "asocials," harassed, and eventually herded into concentration camps where many thousands were killed. But until now the story of their persecution has either been overlooked or distorted. In The Nazi Persecution of the Gypsies, Guenter Lewy draws upon thousands of documents--many never before used--from German and Austrian archives to provide the most comprehensive and accurate study available of the fate of the Gypsies under the Nazi regime. Lewy traces the escalating vilification of the Gypsies as the Nazis instigated a widespread crackdown on the "work-shy" and "itinerants." But he shows that Nazi policy towards Gypsies was confused and changeable. At first, local officials persecuted gypsies, and those who behaved in gypsy-like fashion, for allegedly anti-social tendencies. Later, with the rise of race obsession, Gypsies were seen as a threat to German racial purity, though Himmler himself wavered, trying to save those he considered "pure Gypsies" descended from Aryan roots in India. Indeed, Lewy contradicts much existing scholarship in showing that, however much the Gypsies were persecuted, there was no general program of extermination analogous to the "final solution" for the Jews. Exploring in heart-rending detail the fates of individual Gypsies and their families, The Nazi Persecution of the Gypsies makes an important addition to our understanding both of the history of this mysterious people and of all facets of the Nazi terror.

Quantum Aspects Of Beam Physics Advanced Icfa Beam Dynamics Workshop written by Pisin Chen and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-04-19 with categories.

The frontiers of beam research point to increasingly high energy, greater brightness and lower emittance beams with ever-increasing particle species. These demands in turn have triggered a rapidly growing number of beam phenomena that involve quantum effects. Concurrently, the violent accelerations which are becoming available through novel accelerator research may, perhaps, help to investigate fundamental physics associated with general relativity. In view of these exciting developments and the important role they may play in the next century, the world's first conference on the 'Quantum Aspects of Beam Physics', held at Monterey, California, in January 1998, attracted a broad spectrum of experts from beam physics, particle physics, laser science, astrophysics, condensed matter physics, nuclear and atomic physics. At the end of the meeting, a new term 'quantum beam physics' was coined. This book collects together the excellent reviews and papers on new advances in the field which were presented during the workshop. It should be a valuable reference to all physicists interested in the frontiers of quantum beam physics.

Examining the cultural history of Renaissance Naples with an emphasis on humanism, the author also evaluates Naples in the broader context of fifteenth-century Italy and Renaissance Europe in general. He addresses several prominent themes of Renaissance history: patron- client relationships, the development of a realistic, Machiavellian approach to matters of statecraft and diplomacy, and the influence of Neapolitan humanists on European culture in general.
