Elaboradas entre a República Oligárquica dos anos 1920 e a transição da ditadura militar para a redemocratização nos anos 1980, essas contribuições trazem diferentes perspectivas sobre como, a partir da formação social brasileira, podemos pensar em caminhos para uma transformação estrutural. Carlos Marighella, Astrojildo Pereira, Caio Prado Júnior, Luiz Carlos Prestes, Ana Montenegro e Florestan Fernandes são alguns dos nomes que compõem este retrato do campo político progressista do século passado. Em suas análises, sobressaem debates sobre as bases econômicas do Brasil e sua modernização, as transformações sociais que acompanham esse processo, bem como as desigualdades persistentes, e a organização e as estratégias políticas necessárias às mudanças. Em artigo de 1947, por exemplo, Caio Prado Júnior diz ser necessário ao Brasil 'refazer-se sob novas bases, deixar de ser um simples fornecedor do comércio e dos mercadores internacionais e tornar-se efetivamente o que deve ser uma economia nacional: um sistema organizado de produção e distribuição dos recursos do país para a satisfação das necessidades de sua população'. Ana Montenegro, por sua vez, escreve em 1960 sobre a desigualdade da condição das mulheres em relação aos homens: 'Ao sair para a fábrica, para o escritório, para a escola, para a jornada diária de trabalho fora do lar, a mulher não se livra da jornada diária do pesado trabalho doméstico. [...] As trabalhadoras [...] só recebem 65% dos salários pagos aos homens'. No atual momento de avanço do neoliberalismo e do conservadorismo, os escritos servem de base para reflexão e de estímulo para debater as mudanças estruturais necessárias ao país na academia, nos movimentos sociais e nos partidos políticos. O livro "Os marinheiros do Antimil (Setor Militar do PCB) e a Guerra da Coreia (1950-1953)" é o resultado de 4 anos de pesquisa minuciosa realizada nos arquivos do Superior Tribunal Militar (STM), Arquivo Público do Estado do Rio Janeiro (APERJ), CPDOC-FGV, Hemeroteca Nacional, Jornal O Estado de S. Paulo e Jornal do Brasil. O contexto histórico da pesquisa é a Guerra da Coreia (1950-1953) e procurou-se mostrar como a militância dos militares adeptos das células do Setor Militar do PCB – Antimil – que funcionou entre os anos de 1929-1992, teve certo peso para definir os rumos da decisão do presidente Getulio Vargas de participar ou não do teatro de guerra coreano. Com esse objetivo, o trabalho apresenta um histórico e os desdobramentos da Guerra Fria, principalmente na América Latina e no Brasil, mostrando as variadas correntes teóricas interpretativas, além de apresentar os diferentes atores decisórios, como o debate em questão em diferentes fóruns, entre eles o Clube Militar e o Alto Comando do Exército, a grande imprensa, a imprensa de esquerda, o Ministério das Relações Exteriores, Presidência da República, a Casa do Sargento e os praças da Marinha de Guerra Brasileira. O trabalho mostra o funcionamento, organização e o histórico das células do Setor Militar do Partido Comunista do Brasil e a atuação no período estudado, além da repressão institucional sobre os marinheiros e as graves violações aos direitos humanos.
