In the 1990s thousands of Kashmiri pundit families living for generations in Kashmir Valley were uprooted by the insurgents who infiltrated from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Ironically, their properties were usurped and they were driven out of their own land to other parts of India, such as Jammu, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, etc. Having been caught in a political maelstrom in their own land and forced to migrate, the Kashmiri pundits strongly resented their refugee status and found living conditions in other cities harsh. Some educated Kashmiri youth failed to get jobs in the cities and towns where they took refuge and were forced to become deviants. Whatever privations they suffered, they had no alternative but to eke out a living in the cities of refuge. The poignant story, which has a strong domestic flavour, mainly focuses on one such deracinated family that settles down in Hyderabad and the challenges and torments faced by the protagonist, Shyam Kumar, the eldest son of his parents. By a freak of fortune, his name was changed to Shoab Akthar and he is inducted into ISIS to join militants in India and cause death and destruction. Being a staunch nationalist and patriot, his allegiance to his country is paramount and he does maximum damage to the network of militants in India. As a result, his personal life is in turmoil because the militants are on the prowl to liquidate him physically. Shyam frustrates their evil designs by exploiting his versatile combative skill. By virtue of profound knowledge and skill acquired by Shyam from the extensive and rigorous training in Iraq and Yemen, the protagonist becomes an expert combatant and proficient at military warfare. He is absorbed as Intelligence Officer in National Investigation Agency by Government of India to pursue the militants and eliminate them. Shyam is not after wealth and fame but wants absolute peace of mind, having experienced the bitterest side of life. His young wife, Kalpana, too is not desirous of accumulating wealth and looks forward to raise a small happy and contented family. The story unfolds a metamorphosis in Shyam's life. Here are some excerpts from the book:"Kalpana saw the two men were outside the van and she looked around for her bag which she found on the floor of van. She quickly took out the pepper spray can and held it tightly in her right hand. It was ominously dark and she was frightened as there was no traffic movement on the road. She suddenly leapt up and sprayed the fume copiously in the eyes of one man and held the other man tightly to his seat and sprayed with full strength in his eyes too, howling, 'You bastards, barbaric scoundrels, both of you deserve death.'""Before they (the militants) neared, they slowed down the bike whose headlight was eerily dim. Kalpana and Shyam ran across and hid behind the bushes without noise. Shyam quietly pulled out the pistol and as the bike inched towards them, he shot them rapidly. The men didn't even have time to get down the bike. The bike veered sharply and ran into the bush. Both of them slumped to the ground and holding his new revolver, Shyam kicked them hard with his right leg. The pistol from one man's right hand flew off. Shyam and Kalpana didn't look back and scurried towards the main road." "As soon as she entered the van, the other sleuth stuffed her mouth with a morphine laced cloth and a moment later she lost consciousness. They hurtled down to a remote, decrepit house on the outskirts of the city. There the lusty young men stripped her, wildly pounced on her, like sex starved dogs, and savagely raped her that caused intense bleeding from her internal genitalia. Namrata, who was not fully conscious, writhed in pain and agony. She moaned, groaned and even wailed. Fearing that they would be caught and arrested, they strangled her with her mustard dupatta. She wore yellow printed salwar kameez. The two rapists abandoned her haphazardly almost naked..."

This work is a masterful analysis of the topic of pledging spiritual allegiance [bay'ah] to a spiritual guide or mentor. Whilst oft misunderstood and misrepresented in our times, the roots of this practice undeniably spring from the Prophetic era. Bringing together in one work countless citations from the Qur'an and sunnah as well as the early and latter day scholars of the Muslim nation, the Indian scholar-sage of the twelfth hijri century, Imam Ahmad Rida presents a robust argument for the preservation of this beneficial practice in modern times whilst at the same time highlighting various damaging trends that have sullied it in recent times. Translated into English by Yusuf Murray with a beneficial foreword by Shaykh Ismaeel de Silva, the combination of scholarly erudition, spiritual insight and relevant citations in this work combine to grant the reader a unique glimpse into 'The Reality of Spiritual Allegiance'.

Good Knowledge Bad Knowledge written by Stephen Hetherington and has been published by Clarendon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-10-18 with Philosophy categories.

What is knowledge? How hard is it for a person to have knowledge? Good Knowledge, Bad Knowledge confronts contemporary philosophical attempts to answer those classic questions, by identifying and arguing against two fundamental epistemological presumptions. Can there be both better and worse knowledge of some fact? Can you improve your knowledge of a particular fact? Can there be especially bad knowledge of a specific fact? Epistemologists routinely answer these questions with a resounding 'No'. But Stephen Hetherington argues that those standard answers are mistaken. The result is a theory of knowledge that is unique in conceiving of knowledge in a non-absolutist way. The theory offers new solutions to many traditional epistemological puzzles, including various kinds of scepticism, the Gettier challenge, and the problem of the criterion. It also offers a fresh way of using G. E. Moore's anti-sceptical gambit, along with reinterpretations of the epistemic roles of fallibility, luck, relevance, and dogmatism. And what can we know about knowledge? The role of intuition in shaping epistemological thought about knowledge is critically examined. Anyone working on epistemology will enjoy this original and challenging work.

Three Japanese American individuals with different beliefs and backgrounds decided to resist imprisonment by the United States government during World War II in different ways. Jim Akutsu, considered by some to be the inspiration for John Okada's No-No Boy, resisted the draft and argued that he had no obligation to serve the US military because he was classified as an enemy alien. Hiroshi Kashiwagi renounced his United States citizenship and refused to fill out the "loyalty questionnaire" required by the US government. He and his family were segregated by the government and ostracized by the Japanese American community for being "disloyal." And Mitsuye Endo became a reluctant but willing plaintiff in a Supreme Court case that was eventually decided in her favor. These three stories show the devastating effects of the imprisonment, but also how widespread and varied the resistance was. Frank Abe is writer/director of the film on the largest organized resistance to incarceration, Conscience and the Constitution (PBS), and co-editor of JOHN OKADA: The Life and Rediscovered Work of the Author of No-No Boy (University of Washington Press). Tamiko Nimura is a Sansei/Pinay freelance writer, editor, and public historian, contributing regularly to Discover Nikkei and the International Examiner. Ross Ishikawa is a cartoonist and animator living in Seattle. Matt Sasaki is the artist on Fighting for America: Nisei Soldiers by Lawrence Matsuda.

The morals are: that an appreciation of humor is a precious thing; that God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform, and that you never can tell. In regard to this fable it is urged that, according to the doctrine of chances, it is extremely unlikely that at the very moment the lion lay bound and helpless the very same mouse should pass by. But the explanation is very simple and bromidic. It is this—that this is a small world. People who are stay-at-home bodies come to believe the whole world is the village in which they live. People who are rolling-stones claim that if you travel far enough and long enough the whole world becomes as one village; that sooner or later you make friends with everyone in it; that the only difference between the stay-at-homes and the gadabouts is that while the former answer local telephone calls, the others receive picture postal-cards. There is a story that seems to illustrate how small this world is. In fact, this is the story.
