Future developments in war, armed conflict and international relations are central to our collective fate in this century. Dan atas rakmat yang diberikan Tuhan kepadamu, maka ceritakantah (QS A-Dhuna [93]: 11) Saya mengenal Saudara Hamid Alhadad sejak kami sama-sama kuliah di Akedemi Dinas Luar Negeri (ADLN), kemudian sama-sama melanjutkan kuliah di Univerisity of Viginia, Amerika Serikat, dan kemudian bergabung dengan Badan Litbang. Kemlu, yang saya pimpin. Dalam buku pertama yang ditulis oleh Saudara Hamid Alhadad, saya dikejutkan dengan sajak-sajaknya yang berhubungan erat dengan penugasannya di tempat-tempal akreditasi, dengan pengamalan dan analisisnya mengenal negara tersebut, dan juga karena ternyata dia juga seorang "penyair". Dalam buku kedua, dia menjelma menjadi "Ustad". Memang, dia pernah sekolah di Madrasah di Kota Solo, Jawa Tengah, sehingga pendidikan agama di awal itu sangat memberi kesan dan pengaruh yang mendalam dalam kehidupannya. Sudah beberapa tahun ini dia menjadi "Pembina" pada "Pengajian Al Ukhuwah". pengajian yang dikelola oleh pensiunan Kementerian Luar Negeri, sehingga kole ga-koleganya menyebutnya sabagai "Ustad". Karena saya melihat betapa produktifnya Saudara Hamid dengan tulisan dan aktivi tasnya, seperti bergabung dengan pengajian dan kelompok-kelompok diskusi di lingkungan pensiunan Kemlu dan di luarnya, maka komentar saya pada buku kedua itu antara lain adalah "Buat Saudara Hamid tampaknya pensiun sebagai pegawai negeri maupun pejabat negara bukan berarti harus berhenti melakukan hal-hal positif yang dapat mendorong kemajuan bangsa dan negara. Saya sendiri sangat sependapat dengan filosofi hidup semacam ini." Dalam buku ketiga ini, tampaknya Saudara Hamid Alhadad menyambut ulang tahunnya yang ke-80 dengan menulis "riwayat hidup", atau memoarnya Prof. Dr. Hasjim Djalal, M.A. Duta Besar untuk Kanada (1983-1985), Duta Besar untuk Jerman (1990-1993, Guru Besar Universitas Padjadjaran dan Lemhanas sampai sekarang [Mizan, Expose, Hamid Al Hadad, Tokoh Indonesia]
