Pada setiap komunitas manusia memiliki struktur sosial atau tatanan baku yang disepakati serta fungsi yang melekat pada setiap bagian struktur sosial tersebut. Apakah yang berkaitan dengan kedudukan atau posisi, peranan, dan pola kepemimpinan serta faktor-faktor pengikat yang dapat diterapkan dalam bentuk tatanan baku. Sebab dalam suatu komunitas sangat perlu adanya Pattern yang berfungsi sebagai pengatur tingkah laku setiap anggota komunitasnya. Komunitas yang terdapat di Amparita Kabupaten Sidenreng Rappang yaitu Tolotang Benteng yang hidupnya sehari-hari kelihatan seperti masyarakat umum, tapi jika ditelusuri lebih dalam sesungguhnya memiliki spesifik tersendiri baik dari segi norma- norma peranan, pola kepemimpinan dan struktur sosial serta interaksi antara mereka, utamanya pemimpin mereka yang disebut “Uwatta”. Tolotang Benteng juga merupakan sebutan bagi aliran kepercayaan yang mereka anut. Kelompok Tolotang Benteng adalah kelompok orang-orang yang mempunyai dua unsur yaitu unsur Islam dan unsur Tolotang. Pada segi lain, mereka mengakui Dewata seuwae sebagai Tuhan mereka dan Sawerigading sebagai Nabi mereka. Mereka pun memiliki kitab suci sebagai Lontara-Lontara, memiliki pemmali-pemmali, memiliki kebiasaan mengunjungi dan meminta keselamatan ke kuburan dan mengakui adanya molalaleng (hari akhirat) sebagai mana yang dimiliki oleh Towani Tolotang. Lontara sebagai kitab suci mereka terdiri atas dua macam, yaitu Lontara katti yang berisi soal-soal duniawi dan lontara Purokani yang berisi keterangan tentang hari kemudian. Buku ini terbagi dalam tiga belas bab, yang berisi pendahuluan, gambaran umum suku Tolotang Benteng, teori kepemimpinan, kepemimpinan dalam komunitas tolotang benteng, pendekatan teori interaksional simbolis, setruktur sosial masyarakat tolotang benteng, sistem sosial dan pendekatan teori struktural fungsional. teori-teori pengembangan diri, struktur sosial, pola hubungan dan tipologi kepemimpinan dalam komunitas Tolotang Benteng.

Dalam perkembangan politik kontemporer, “adat” telah menjadi perhatian serius dari banyak ilmuwan politik.
