One Dimensional Transient Flow In Pipelines Modelling And Simulation written by Abdelaziz Ghodhbani and has been published by Bentham Science Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book presents numerical computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions for studying the effect of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) on evaluation of pressure waves in pipelines with cavitation. The authors develop a uniform one-dimensional model using coupled models. These models consider unsteady friction (UF), Poisson coupling, axial vibration (junction coupling), gas release and viscoelasticity. The authors consider two cases: elastic pipelines and viscoelastic (VE) pipelines. The book starts with a detailed literature review on the relevant methods for calculating transient fluid flow, followed by chapters that explain the mathematical development for calculations and the numerical steps for water hammer and transient cavitation. The concluding chapters present the results for the two pipeline cases. The book is presented in simple language intended for engineering students who want to understand CFD simulations for transient flow in pipelines. Equations are explained in simple steps for easy understanding, and concepts are illustrated with detailed diagrams. The information and the codes demonstrated in the book will equip readers with the knowledge to study hydraulic problems where transients are caused by pump starting, stopping and failure. Audience Engineering students and instructors studying hydraulics and computational fluid dynamics.

A new methodology was developed for the numerical simulation of transient two-phase flow in pipes. The method combines high-resolution numerical solvers and adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) techniques, and can achieve an order of magnitude improvement in computational time compared to solvers using conventional uniform grids. After a thorough analysis of the mathematical models used to describe the complex behaviour of two-phase flows, the methodology was used with three specific models in order to evaluate the robustness and accuracy of the numerical schemes developed, and to assess the ability of these models to predict two physical flow regimes, namely stratified and slug flows. The first stage of the validation work was to examine the physical correlations required for an accurate modelling of the stratified smooth and wavy flow patterns, and a new combination of existing correlations for the wall and interfacial friction factors was suggested in order to properly predict the flow features of the experimental transient case investigated. The second and final phase of the work dealt with the complex and multi-dimensional nature of slug flow. This flow regime remains a major and expensive headache for oil producers, due to its unsteady nature and high-pressure drop. The irregular flow results in poor oil/water separation, limits production and can cause flaring. The modelling approached that was adopted here is based on the two-fluid model, which can theoretically follows each formed slug and predicts its evolution, growth and decay, as it moves along the pipe. However, the slug flow study, performed here through a test case above the Inviscid Kelvin-Helmholtz transition from stratified to slug flow, showed that the incompressible two-fluid model used is unable to accurately predict most of the features of this complex flow. Mechanisms such as the interfacial wave formation, the slug growth and propagation, although observed from the simulations, cannot be accuratel.

Transient Flow Modeling For Reservoir Pressure Estimation written by Vai Yee Hon and has been published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07 with categories.

The lack of reservoir pressure data has always posed problems in production planning and oil recovery optimization. Subsurface reservoir pressure data acquisition through intrusive well intervention method might lead to loss of production and increased risk to the well. An alternative to well intervention is to employ transient flow modeling technique to estimate the reservoir pressure, as presented in this book. A mathematical workflow for the transient flow model was devised to simulate the hydrocarbon fluid redistribution in a well, from steady state flow until the fluid columns were fully segregated upon equilibrium over the well shut-in period. The salient features of this transient flow modeling technique were described, including simulation of reservoir fluid influx, gas-liquid interface movement, wellhead and bottom-hole pressure build-up over the fluid redistribution period during well shut-in. This transient flow modeling technique provides an alternative mean for petroleum engineers to obtain bottom-hole data without well intervention. Hence provides insight into well performance, improves reservoir management and decision making.

More and more transient gas-liquid operations in pipes are being successfully applied in the oil and gas industry. Pigging in two-phase pipelines, to remove liquid accumulation or for cleaning purposes, is an important transient operation. Another important operation is the injection of ( - )-as to transport the accumulated liquid in the pipeline to process facilities. Analysis of such transient two-phase flow in a pipeline is necessary not only for designing the liquid and (Yas handling facilities, but also for safe operating procedure. In pipeline-fiser system such operations cause even more severe changes in flow conditions. A two-fluid model has been developed to determine the transient behaviour of fluids during these operations. T he derived one-dimensionasl et of equationsf or each flow pattern describet he flow of fluids in all regions. Semi-implicit finite difference schemes were used to solve the initial and boundary value problem for each phase of the process- gas/pig injection, gas shut-in, slug production and gas flow out of the system. An extensive experimental program has been carried out to acquire two-phase transient flow and pigging data on a 67 m long, 0.0525 m diameter, 9.9 m high pipeline-riser system. A computer based data acquisition system has been utilised to obtain rapidly changing and detailed information of the flow behaviour during the transient tests. The model results compare well with the experimental data for characteristics such as inlet pressure, hold-up and pig velocity.
