Stimmt es, daB die Wendung zum Methodischen, die die wissenschaftliche Theorie im historischen Verlauf ihrer Entwicklung und Differenzierung genommen hat, mit Notwendigkeit zu Mathematisierungstendenzen fUhrt? Wie sind Tragfiihigkeit, Reichweite und Aussichten mathematischer Metho den in den Einzelwissenschaften zu beurteilen? In welchem Verhiiltnis zueinander stehen mathematische und einzelwissen schaftliche Konzepte? Antwort auf diese Fragen sucht eine in der Griindungsphase der neuen Universitiit Bielefeld gebildete "Mathematisierungskommission" im Hinblick auf eine raschere "Obertragung neuer Methoden und Modellvorstellungen von einer Einzelwissenschaft in eine andere, das Aufspiiren neuer Entwicklungslinien der Mathematisierung und einen theoretischen Vorlauf zur weiteren maschinellen Datenverarbeitung. Bei den folgenden Beitriigen handelt es sich urn die zum Teil nur leicht korrigierten Mitschriften von Vortriigen vor dieser Kommission und urn ergiin zende Stellungnahmen aus am Ort nicht vertretenen Disziplinen, die einen ersten Ansatz zu einer umfassenden Bestandsaufnahme und kritischen Diskussion des Gebrauchs mathematischer Methoden in den verschiedenen Wissenschaften liefern wollen. 1m Mittelpunkt der sich in monatlicher Folge aneinanderschlie l3enden Referate der Vertreter der einzelnen Wissenschaften standen Probleme der Kooperation zwischen ihrer Disziplin und der Mathematik, wobei sie hiiufig von einer populiirwissenschaftlichen Darstellung ihres Fachs nach Art des alten "Studium Generale" ausgingen. Vor demHintergrund ihrer Einschiitzung:welche stiirmischen Entwicklungen hat es in den letzten zwanzig bis fUnfzig Jahren gegeben - und wo herrscht eher Stagnation, zogen die Referenten ein Resiimee bisheriger Beriihrungen ihrer Wissenschaft mit der Mathematik und erorterten Aussichten des weiteren Einsatzes mathematischer Methoden.
