Las Tecnologias de la Informacion y las Comunicaciones (TIC) han causado un gran impacto en todas las esferas de la sociedad. La Educacion no ha sido la excepcion. Sin embargo, dada la complejidad del dominio, la multiplicidad de teorias y cierta resistencia de los principales actores a las nuevas formas de hacer, han hecho que la interaccion entre los docentes y los especialistas en las TIC se torne, por momentos, en un dialogo de sordos. Tambien ha traido consigo que muchas soluciones educativas basadas en las TIC no tengan en cuenta los principios y fundamentos de las Ciencias de la Educacion. Hasta cierto punto, esto es un fenomeno "sui generis" en la aplicacion de las TIC, que dificilmente se encuentre en otro dominio; a nadie se le ocurriria crear una aplicacion para la cirugia sin tomar en cuenta lo que hacen y escriben los cirujanos. En este libro se describe el diseno de una plataforma educativa virtual que tuvo en cuenta conjuntamente los requerimientos tecnologicos y los educativos, estos ultimos plasmados en un modelo educativo que ya se ha recomendado en otros muchos escenarios."
