The Science Of Water written by Enzo Levi and has been published by American Society of Civil Engineers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Technology & Engineering categories.

In The Science of Water, Enzo Levi traces the scientific evolution of modern hydraulics, and reveals the gradual development of hydraulic concepts and theories over a 2,300-year period. Levi places prominent scientists in their historical context, and reviews both successful and failed attempts to understand the perplexities of the physical behavior of water. Translated from the Spanish El Agua Segun La Ciencia and written in straightforward language, The Science of Water accomplishes a difficult objective. It achieves a balance between history and science, idea and understanding, failure and success, and imagination and creativity. The Science of Water facilitates the strengthening of knowledge, the learning of concepts not traditionally taught, and the building of self-confidence and insight to observe and explain phenomena in original ways. Major and minor achievements in all branches of hydraulics are examined, as chapters illustrate how erroneous concepts were originated and transferred from one scientist to another. Bidone's discovery of hydraulic jump and its use by Venturi; Torricelli's principle; the evolution of the "Navier-Stokes equation;" Thomson's vortex atom; and Newton's theories on velocity and resistance are just a few of the areas covered. In a separate chapter, Levi discloses Leonardo da Vinci's fascination, observations, and theories on water and its power as "the driver of nature."

Introduction To Modern Instrumentation written by Dardo Oscar Guaraglia and has been published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-01 with Science categories.

Natural hazards and anthropic activities threaten the human environment. The gathering of field data is needed so as to quantify the impact of such activities. To gather the necessary data researchers nowadays use a great variety of new instruments based on electronics. Yet, the working principles of this new instrumentation might not be well understood by some potential users. All operators of these new tools must gain proper insight so as to be able to judge whether the instrument is selected appropriately and functions adequately. This book attempts to demonstrate some characteristics that are not easy to understand by the uninitiated in the use of electronic instruments. The material presented in this book was prepared with the purpose of reflecting the technological changes that have occurred in environmental modern instrumentation in the last few decades. The book is intended for students of hydrology, hydraulics, oceanography, meteorology and environmental sciences. Basic concepts of electronics, special physics principles and signal processing are introduced in the first chapters in order to enable the reader to follow the topics developed in the book, without any prior knowledge of these matters. The instruments are explained in detail and several examples are introduced to show their measuring limitations. Enough mathematical fundamentals are given to allow the reader to reach a good quantitative knowledge.

Shallow Water Hydraulics written by Oscar Castro-Orgaz and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-08 with Mathematics categories.

This book presents the theory and computation of open channel flows, using detailed analytical, numerical and experimental results. The fundamental equations of open channel flows are derived by means of a rigorous vertical integration of the RANS equations for turbulent flow. In turn, the hydrostatic pressure hypothesis, which forms the core of many shallow water hydraulic models, is scrutinized by analyzing its underlying assumptions. The book’s main focus is on one-dimensional models, including detailed treatments of unsteady and steady flows. The use of modern shock capturing finite difference and finite volume methods is described in detail, and the quality of solutions is carefully assessed on the basis of analytical and experimental results. The book’s unique features include: • Rigorous derivation of the hydrostatic-based shallow water hydraulic models • Detailed treatment of steady open channel flows, including the computation of transcritical flow profiles • General analysis of gate maneuvers as the solution of a Riemann problem • Presents modern shock capturing finite volume methods for the computation of unsteady free surface flows • Introduces readers to movable bed and sediment transport in shallow water models • Includes numerical solutions of shallow water hydraulic models for non-hydrostatic steady and unsteady free surface flows This book is suitable for both undergraduate and graduate level students, given that the theory and numerical methods are progressively introduced starting with the basics. As supporting material, a collection of source codes written in Visual Basic and inserted as macros in Microsoft Excel® is available. The theory is implemented step-by-step in the codes, and the resulting programs are used throughout the book to produce the respective solutions.

Mobile Equipment Hydraulics A Systems And Troubleshooting Approach written by Ben Watson and has been published by Cengage Learning this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-17 with Education categories.

Designed for the required course on hydraulics found in diesel technology and heavy equipment programs, MOBILE EQUIPMENT HYDRAULICS: A SYSTEMS AND TROUBLESHOOTING APPROACH, takes a practical approach to the understanding of fluid power / hydraulic systems. Instead of concentrating on the design issues of fluid power systems this book approaches hydraulics more like a technician would to approach a system that requires maintenance or troubleshooting. Nearly all aspiring diesel technicians receive training in this subject, which is one of seven areas of study recognized by ASE Education Foundation in diesel technology. Coverage includes a study of terminology, industrial standards, symbols and basic circuitry design as related to fluid power. Examples are drawn from actual equipment that is relevant to the program of study, whether it be heavy truck, earth-moving, or agricultural equipment. Hydraulic Fluids written by Peter Hodges and has been published by Butterworth-Heinemann this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-06-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

* Reviews the development of modern hydraulic fluids* Discusses the application and selection of hydraulic fluids through the investigation of their physical and chemical properties related to the operational requirements.* Offers guidance on suitable maintenance routinesSince the first use of water as a hydraulic medium in the late 18th century, hydraulics has become an indispensable discipline of engineering science. Enormous technological advances have been made in the intervening years, but this has not been reflected in the available literature on the numerous fluids involved. Based on 40 years of experience with Shell in Norway, this reference text brings together a comprehensive coverage of the behaviour and selection of hydraulic fluids. It includes a full analysis of recent advances in synthetic oils - media which will inevitably become more dominant as natural products become more scarce.Hydraulic Fluids provides an overview that both students and professionals involved with hydraulics, whether concerned with the mechanical components or system design or selection and maintenance of the fluids themselves, will refer to again and again as it provides relevant information on all the major hydraulic fluids in a single volume.
