The so called 'new reality' is here and it is here to stay. The 'new normal' is a reality with a mix of home, mobile, and classic office environment. We run a software and consulting house serving clients around the world and when the pandemic hit in 2020, we had to adjust quickly. In the beginning uncertainty about future was strong, and we had to change the way how we do business. Our consulting teams changed from 41% remote consulting to 98% remote consulting. And did not lose one client. On the software side, we have been lucky as our solution improves data collaboration in remote settings, we benefited winning new partners and clients. Based on our own experience, many conversations within the team (yes, we also had to home school), with clients, partners and by an active sounding of the market we decided to put this book together. What this book is not is a scientific review of work behavior and a description of productivity losses and gains. The book was planned as the ultimate practical guide to navigate the Modern Workplace. The three chapters structure the book in a first part where we gather some facts and figures on the quick changes caused by the pandemic. In the second chapter we give helpful tips and advice on how to work remotely and finally we gathered ideas how to lead yourself and others within the 'new reality'. We hope you enjoy the reading.

Capstone HRM: Dynamics in the Workplace provides students, academics and practitioners with an alternative view of activities associated with managing people at work. Assuming readers have a sound understanding of best practice human resource management (HRM) techniques; it seeks to speak to people fascinated by the puzzle posed by the real world of human resource management (HRM). HRM broadly refers to the activities associated with the management of the people who do the work of organizations, while strategic HRM assumes that HRM activities are integrated with strategic objectives, and improve organizational performance. Unfortunately, often HRM policies represent an intent rather than the actual practice of managing people. Capstone HRM: Dynamics in the Workplace grapples with these complexities, adopting a framework which captures the inter-relationships between national and international (macro) factors, organizational (meso) factors, and individual and group dynamics (micro) operating in the workplace. This framework highlights a number of themes common to the modern, dynamic workplace, including: International and national factors Globalization The contradictions and ambiguities of HRM policies and practices The desire to measure outcomes The embedded nature of ethics in HRM and SHRM, and its relationship to CSR The valuing of human and social capital. Table of Contents: Part I The Terrain 1. Principles, practices, people; 2. Strategic HRM; 3. Sustainable HRM Part II New Workforce - New Perspectives 4. Managing differences; 5. Flexibility and design; 6. Human capital resourcing: Recruitment, selection, attraction, retention Part III Capacity Building 7. Managing effectiveness; 8. Distribution of organisational outcomes; 9. Learning and career development Part IV Epilogue 10. Boundaryless workforce: Organising HRM; 11. Integrating workplace dynamics; 12.The future: Reflections and new directions"

Everything about work has changed, but very little about the workplace has. The current work environment is not working for humans. The defining ethic in the modern workplace is more demanding, bigger, and faster. More information than ever is available and the speed of every transaction has increased exponentially, prompting a sense of permanent urgency and endless distraction. Humans are not programmed like computers. Nor do they run in a linear manner like a machine. Life is moving faster than ever and unintentionally isolating people from one another. People are spending more time at work than they are with their loved ones and maintaining their personal lives. "Relationships are one of the main sources of happiness, but when they go wrong they produce very great distress and are one of the roots of mental disorder" (Argyle). Humans were created to interact, with one another, and with their environments. Human Energy comes from four sources: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Humans achieve great performance when a source or work environment can activate and respond to all four spectrums. This is when humans can achieve great performance. In order to better understand human behavior, understand work, understand how humans measure performance there needs to be more investment on the part of people who design, plan, provide and manage workplaces so they can use those measures to justify changes in the workplace. Furthermore, several corporation case studies regarding organizational culture will be explored. The precedents foreground how design can keep workers happy, engaged and productive while enhancing work performance and satisfaction.
