Six short stories around the topic VREME, which has two meanings in Serbian: time and weather. The first short story "Vreme zauvek" tells about time and weather in a positive and life-affirming tone and is dedicated to the famous Serbian writer and journalist Dušan Radović; the second short story "Vreme ujutro" tells about a very specific moment in the morning that each of us knows well - when we are supposed to get up from the warm bed; the third short story "Vreme u snu" tells of an unusual dream and time in that dream; the fourth short story deals with a card playing group and their special philosophy of life; the fifth story is a tale about a special relationship with time; the last short story "Vremena" is a conversation of two ladies - one called Weather and one called Time. The short stories are written in both Latin and Cyrillic script and at the end of the book there is the vocabulary list with the translation into English. Nakon svog povratka kui, autor potvruje tezu, ali nas i podsjea na to da smo svi mi imigranti – taj lonac za taljenje u kojem se mijeaju razliite kulture i narodnosti je ono to Ameriku ini toliko snanom.

This collection brings together 13 papers by 16 authors presented at the international conference “Reporting on attacks on Dubrovnik and recognition of Croatia”, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, in October 2011. It provides a combined scientific and practical overview of the role of the media and journalists during the attack on Dubrovnik in autumn 1991 by the federal army (JNA) and Montenegrin reservists. This book represents a primary source of information about the propaganda war waged during the conflict between Croatia and Serbia in 1991, because some of the contributors were practical journalists and ministers during the events of that year. The book is structured in three parts: global media, international relations, and strategic communication during wartime; the example of Dubrovnik, and the practices of wartime reporting from the Dubrovnik area; and media analysis on the subject of war in Dubrovnik and Croatia. In the first part, the book examines the impact of the attack on Dubrovnik and the recognition of Croatia by the international community, the strategic steps taken by the Croatian government in the media/propaganda war, and the role of the Diaspora in winning over the international public to favour the Croatian side. In the second part, the book examines the reporting practices used to cover the siege of Dubrovnik and the role of local and international journalists, non-governmental organisations and fixers. Special attention is devoted to the conflict which arises when professional journalistic standards and patriotism clash, particularly if the journalist is reporting from his own town and his own family is in danger. The third part of the book brings an analysis of the war propaganda used by the Croatian, Serbian, and Montenegrin media.

This book unpacks the main narratives used in international relations to depict and explain existing inter-state relations in Central Asia, with a focus on the construction of fairer international relations along the Silk Road. The book points to the need to decolonize international relations in the Central Asian region to present a fair representation of the regional states in international affairs. In doing so, the book exposes the concepts and stereotypes that have been imposed on the Central Asian region by dominant assumptions in contemporary international relations. Offering empirical grounding for alternative views, the author suggests that Western international relations make the same mistakes in the Central Asian region that the Russian Marxists made when they attributed a narrative of modernity along the lines of the progress made in Germany and Russia. In such a structure, both Russian Marxist attempts and liberalist Western ideas disregard the fact that the region has its own model of modernity and progress, which does not necessarily involve an appeal to the modern nation state, ethnicity and state building. The book sheds lights on the prospects of coordinated development of Central Asia and Afghanistan. It also provides insights into the development of post-Socialist Asia in its relations with Russia, China, Japan and South Korea. Contributing to the task of placing Central Asia in discussions in the discipline of international relations, this book will be of interest to academics working in the fields of international relations and Asian politics, in particular Central Asian studies.

This collection takes a case study approach to enter into and explore spaces of 'Second-Third World' interaction during the Cold War. From the dining halls of a university, to hospital wards, construction sites, military barracks, pubs and more, the chapters drop the scale down from the global to the particular to better see, understand and interpret the complex nature of these spaces. These ordinary spaces are examined to understand how they were conceived, constructed, shaped and reshaped by people over time. Many are physical places of encounter, while others are more abstract, embodying ideological goals. In exploring these spaces the contributors show how the Second and Third World actors understood them and connected them to ideas such as gender and space, the space of the nation, of the modern and of the self.
