The Book Is A Major Critical Attempt That Tries To Evaluate TagoreýS Literary Genius In The Background Of Modernism Which According To The Author Chiefly Consists In A Single-Minded Preoccupation With The Body Of Poetry With The Consequent Belief In The Self-Sufficiency Of Language And In An Oppressive And Overwhelming Consciousness Of Evil In The World. The Author Tries, Following The Great PoetýS Own View Of Criticism, To Understand The Way In Which The World Expresses Itself In The Body Of TagoreýS Poetic Creation. He Examines How The Awareness Of Evil Grows In TagoreýS Work Until It Becomes Pervasive In His Final Phase. The Critic Shows How The Poet Moves From Romantic Effusion And Melancholy To The Self-Processed Tranquillity Of Divine Love And From There Towards Western Humanism On The One Hand And To A Realisation Of ýThe Gracious Aspect Of The Terribleý On The Other.

At present Anirban Sengupta starts to research on Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore Songs) and its contemporary and non-contemporary way with the help of various information with his honorable teacher and guide Mr. Bivashkanti Guptabakshi. Anirban Sengupta and his teacher Mr. Bivashkanti Guptabakshi’s main tendency is to unfold the flowness of the thinking of Rabindranath in making of the songs at different steps of Rabindra Sangeet. They believe that the changing course of Rabindra Sangeet also effects the Bengali literature and culture. So they try to focus on patriotism of Rabindranath Tagore and the glimpses of his musical sense through the project “Review of Tagore Works”. At last our dream comes to a shape of reality, we both, myself Bivashkanti Guptabakshi and Anirban Sengupta started thinking about something which would different in the field of literature. Now we are in the open daylight with our creation. In this works we try to be open from every aspect. It means that our literary works try to cover every dimension of the versatile talent of Rabindranath Tagore and his contemporary of Jorasanko Thakur Bari. We are just opening our petals of little knowledge we have about literature and the works of Rabindranath Tagore. So, try to come close to our works which is nothing but a humanization of Rabindranath Tagore who is very much our friend, philosopher and guide.

This is a transnational and bilingual investigation of the cross-fertilisation of mystical religiosity and modern poetical imagination in the works of the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore and the Irish poet W. B. Yeats. The book demonstrates how their commitments to transnational mysticism deeply form and inform the modernist literary projects of these poets as well as their understanding of cultural modernity. Although its primary interest lies in their poetry and poetics, the monograph also includes some of their relevant prose works. This study begins with a close look at and around the phase of 1912-1913, when Yeats and Tagore met over the collection of the latter’s English translations of his spiritual verses, Gitanjali, and took mutual interests in each other’s works and cultural significances. The monograph then expands on both sides of that phase, selectively covering the whole career of the poets in its exploration of their parallel mystic-modern cultural-poetical projects.

"A wide-ranging collection that allows the mask—as artifact, metaphor, theatrical costume, fetish, strategy for self-concealment, and treasured cultural object—to clarify modernity’s relationship to history."--Carrie J. Preston, author of Modernism’s Mythic Pose: Gender, Genre, Solo Performance "Covering an impressive range of geographies, cultures, and time periods, these carefully researched essays explore the fascinating role of masks and masking in mediating the relationship between tradition and modernity in both art and literature."--Paul Jay, author of The Humanities “Crisis” and the Future of Literary Studies Behind the Masks of Modernism reconsiders the meaning of "modernism" by taking an interdisciplinary approach and stretching beyond the Western modernist canon and the literary scope of the field. The essays in this diverse collection explore numerous regional, national, and transnational expressions of modernity through art, history, architecture, drama, literature, and cultural studies around the globe. Masks--both literal and metaphorical--play a role in each of these artistic ventures, from Brazilian music to Chinese film and Russian poetry to Nigerian masquerade performance. The contributors show how artists and writers produce their works in moments of emerging modernity, aesthetic sensibility, and deep societal transformations caused by modern transnational forces. Using the mask as a thematic focus, the volume explores the dialogue created through regional modernisms, emphasizes the local in describing universal tropes of masks and masking, and challenges popular assumptions about what modernism looks like and what modernity is.

Novelist Tagore written by Radha Chakravarty and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with Social Science categories.

Rabindranath Tagore is widely regarded as a poet-philosopher and educationist, but his novels remain a relatively underexplored aspect of his oeuvre. Focusing on gender and modernity as key features of his fiction, this book charts Tagore's evolution as a novelist from self-conscious psychologizing in Chokher Bali to an engagement with nationalism in Gora and Ghare Baire (The Home and the World); a portrayal of asceticism and desire in Chaturanga (Quartet); an analysis of marriage, sexuality and change in Bengali society in Yogayog (Relationships); an effervescent fusion of social satire and literary experimentation in Shesher Kabita (Farewell Song); and an intense, dramatic study of love, politics and terrorism in Char Adhyay (Four Chapters). This study demonstrates that Tagore’s writings cannot be readily assimilated within current theoretical frameworks, and urges us to rethink the conventional oppositions between tradition and modernity, masculinity and femininity, East and West, and local and global. Addressing a major gap in the field, the book reconstructs Tagore as a novelist of eminent stature, demonstrates the range and complexity of his creative genius, his contribution to literary history and the relevance of his reflections to our times. Enriched by insights into the biographical and socio-historical contexts of his novels, this book will be of special interest to researchers, teachers and students of comparative and world literature, history, postcolonial studies and gender studies, as also to Tagore enthusiasts.

“Their real freedom is not within the boundaries of security, but in the highroad of adventures, full of the risk of new experiences.” Nationalism was a popular subject of debate in the pre-Independence era and academics from across the world shared their ideas on the same. Tagore’s idea of nationalism is deep-rooted in his belief that growth has to be all-inclusive – not just for a nation, but also for its people. This book is a collection of Tagore’s lectures on Nationalism in the West, Japan and India. His mastery with expression is further highlighted as he recounts the need of the concept of Nation to benefit its people, and not just exist as an idealistic theory that benefits a few. Nationalism brings to fore Tagore’s deep understanding of contemporary politics and paves a middle path between growth of the people and a nation, and aggressive ways towards modernity.
