The primary goal of the proposed work is to identify genes which play an anabolic role in bone and soft tissue function and to clarify the function of these genes. Three hypotheses have been proposed: (1) The high bone density gene in chromosome I in our CAST/B6 congenic mice can be cloned; (2) Genes that regulate soft and hard tissue regeneration can be identified by using appropriate mouse strains that exhibit differences in regeneration; and (3) ENU mutagenesis, applied to our mouse model, will lead to the identity of genes that regulate soft and hard tissue function. During the first twelve months of the funding period, we have proposed several specific objectives for each of the above-mentioned hypotheses. As disclosed in the progress report, we have successfully accomplished all of the specific objectives. Our work during the first year of the funding period has resulted in four manuscripts in press, four submitted manuscripts, one manuscript in preparation, and four abstracts. We believe that the successful accomplishment of the proposed studies will provide a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in hard- and soft-tissue regeneration and will provide a framework for future development of therapies for hard and soft tissue injuries.

Oral Wound Healing: Cell Biology and Clinical Management brings experts from around the world together to provide an authoritative reference on the processes, principles and clinical management of wound healing in the oral mucosa. Promoting a thorough understanding of current research on the topic, this new resource draws together thinking on the basic biological processes of wound healing in the oral environment, as well as providing more detailed information and discussion on processes such as inflammation, reepithelialization and angiogenesis. Beyond this, the book goes on to examine topics pertinent to the effective clinical management of oral wound healing, bringing together chapters on large dento-facial defects, dental implants, periodontal regeneration, and pulp healing. An essential synthesis of current research and clinical applications, Oral Wound Healing will be an indispensable resource for dental specialists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons as well as researchers in oral medicine and biology.

Cell Engineering And Regeneration written by Heinz Redl and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-16 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This reference work presents the origins of cells for tissue engineering and regeneration, including primary cells, tissue-specific stem cells, pluripotent stem cells and trans-differentiated or reprogrammed cells. There is particular emphasis on current understanding of tissue regeneration based on embryology and evolution studies, including mechanisms of amphibian regeneration. The book covers the use of autologous versus allogeneic cell sources, as well as various procedures used for cell isolation and cell pre-conditioning , such as cell sorting, biochemical and biophysical pre-conditioning, transfection and aggregation. It also presents cell modulation using growth factors, molecular factors, epigenetic approaches, changes in biophysical environment, cellular co-culture and other elements of the cellular microenvironment. The pathways of cell delivery are discussed with respect to specific clinical situations, including delivery of ex vivo manipulated cells via local and systemic routes, as well as activation and migration of endogenous reservoirs of reparative cells. The volume concludes with an in-depth discussion of the tracking of cells in vivo and their various regenerative activities inside the body, including differentiation, new tissue formation and actions on other cells by direct cell-to-cell communication and by secretion of biomolecules.
