A Message from Pal, the dog: It is interesting to listen to the owners of pets talk to us dogs. Some people choose to scream, others to quietly beg. The purpose, I suppose, is to get our attention to do a task that satisfies the nice, and the not so nice, pet owners. Take me for example, my name is Pal. I've been living the good life since after my birth with a kind and very loving couple. I call him my Dad, and his wife, I call my Mom. I know they are not my Mom and Dad, but what else would I call them. Usually they refer to me as their cute little puppy. Actually I have been living a very good life with this couple for almost my entire life. They purchased me when I was a brand new baby pup. Dad has attempted to teach me what a dog's life is all about. For the most part his teachings have succeeded, but only because I agree with his sometimes strange ideas. The real reason I agree to do anything is that Dad gives me good treats to eat. We pets do anything our owner's desire, provided we are given a reward. Otherwise, forget it!

In a book that is both urgent and timely, Melissa Ostrom explores the intricacies of shame and victim-blaming that accompany the aftermath of assault. After surviving an assault at an off-campus party, nineteen-year-old Maggie is escaping her college town, and, because her reporting the crime has led to the expulsion of some popular athletes, many people—in particular, the outraged Tigers fans—are happy to see her go. Maggie moves in with her Aunt Wren, a sculptor who lives in an isolated cabin bordered by nothing but woods and water. Maggie wants to forget, heal, and hide, but her aunt’s place harbors secrets and situations that complicate the plan. Worse, the trauma Maggie hoped to leave behind has followed her, haunting her in ways she can’t control, including flashbacks, insomnia and a sense of panic. Her troubles intensify when she begins to receive messages from another student who has survived a rape on her old campus. Just when Maggie musters the courage to answer her emails, the young woman goes silent.

Edward M Kennedy written by Barbara A. Perry and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-18 with History categories.

For Kennedy devotees, as well as readers unfamiliar with the "lion of the Senate," this book presents the compelling story of Edward Kennedy's unexpected rise to become one of the most consequential legislators in American history and a passionate defender of progressive values, achieving legislative compromises across the partisan divide. What distinguishes Edward Kennedy: An Oral History is the nuanced detail that emerges from the senator's never-before published, complete descriptions of his life and work, placed alongside the observations of his friends, family, and associates. The senator's twenty released interviews reveal, in his own voice, the stories of Kennedy triumph and tragedy from the Oval Office to the waters of Chappaquiddick. Spanning the presidencies of JFK to Barack Obama, Edward Kennedy was an iconic player in American political life, the youngest sibling of America's most powerful dynasty; he candidly addresses this role: his legislative accomplishments and failures, his unsuccessful run for the White House, his impact on the Supreme Court, his observations on Washington gridlock, and his personal faults. The interviews and introductions to them create an unsurpassed and illuminating volume. Gathered as part of the massive Edward Kennedy Oral History Project, conducted by the University of Virginia's Miller Center, the senator's interviews allow readers to see how oral history can evolve over a three-year period, drawing out additional details as the interviewee becomes increasingly comfortable with the process and the interviewer. Yet, given the Kennedys' well-known penchant for image creation, what the senator doesn't say or how he says what he chooses to include, is often more revealing than a simple declarative statement.

From the author of the classic Mom’s House, Dad’s House, the essential guide for kids on how to stay strong and succeed in life when parents separate, divorce, or get married again. Isolina Ricci’s Mom’s House, Dad’s House has been the gold standard for inspiring and supporting divorcing and remarrying parents for more than twenty-five years. With her new book, Dr. Isa adapts her time-tested advice on maneuvering the emotional, logistical, and legal realities of separation, divorce, and stepfamilies to speak directly to children. Alongside practical ways to cope with big changes she offers older children and their families key resiliency tools that kids can use now and the rest of their lives. Kids will learn how to: · Deal with parents living apart, schedules, and dueling house rules · Settle comfortably in one home or two · Stay out of the “miserable middle” when parents fight · Manage stress, guilt, change, fear, and other feelings · Stay connected with parents, relatives, and the “right” friends · Appreciate the gifts (and deal with the gripes) of their new version of family · Feel better FAST! Kids can’t get their parents back together, but they can help themselves get stronger and go on to succeed in life. This book shows them how.
