Family is important to God. Within our family relationships, we see each member’s faith journey with its many shades and unique challenges. In Moments Remembered, we get an opportunity to glimpse into the faith journey of the author’s family through their life circumstances—circumstances that reveal God’s presence at work in their lives and will be a springboard to illuminating God’s presence in the life of your family. Among the 30 devotionals in Moments Remembered, you will find family devotions for guiding children to grow closer to God. But these devotions also allow parents to peek into the thoughts and challenges of a child or teen as they try to make sense of God, which can help parents to understand their child’s struggle with faith. Each devotion includes a Scripture reading and a suggested prayer to help draw you and your family closer to God. However, there are also devotions written primarily for parents, not only help moms and dads deepen in faith, but to allow children to see God working in the lives of their parents as they work through the difficulties of raising a family. As you create memorable moments with your own family, let Moments Remembered be a part of you and your family’s Christian walk.

On March 14, 1912, Hillsville, Virginia, native Floyd Allen (1856–1913) was convicted of three criminal charges: assault, maiming, and the rescue of prisoners in custody. What had begun as a scuffle between Allen's nephews over a young woman ended with him being charged as the guilty party after he allegedly hit a deputy in the head with a pistol. When the jury returned with the verdict, Allen stood up and announced, "Gentleman, I ain't a-goin." A gunfight ensued in the crowded courtroom that killed five people and wounded seven others. The state of Virginia put Floyd and Claude Allen to death by electrocution the following spring. More than a century later, the event continues to impact the citizens and communities of the area as local newspapers recirculate the sordid story and give credence to annual public reenactments that continue to negatively impact the national perception of the region. In this first book-length scholarly review of the Hillsville shoot-out, author Travis A. Rountree examines various media written about and inspired by the event and explains how the incident reinforced the nation's conception of Appalachia through depictions of this sensational moment in history. In all, this book provides an extensive analysis of this historic conflict and reveals a new understanding of the shaping of memories and stories from the event.

The tall young woman with sparkling green eyes and long curly copper-red hair stooped gracefully and placed her autumn- colored bridal bouquet on the grave at the base of the tombstone. Five little graves beside hers were testimony to the sorrow and pain of loss as written in the century-old journal held by the young bride. The autumn sun danced through the leaves of red, orange, yellow and gold and on the bent face of the young woman as she whispered,"Thank you grandmother...I wish you could see me and hear me. God does answer prayer.." This fictional account is about trusting God in all situations and allowing Him to direct your ways. Points for reflection or group discussion are at the end of the book.

This international collection brings together scientists, scholars and artist-researchers to explore the cognition of memory through the performing arts and examine artistic strategies that target cognitive processes of memory. The strongly embodied and highly trained memory systems of performing artists render artistic practice a rich context for understanding how memory is formed, utilized and adapted through interaction with others, instruments and environments. Using experimental, interpretive and Practice-as-Research methods that bridge disciplines, the authors provide overview chapters and case studies of subjects such as: * collectively and environmentally distributed memory in the performing arts; * autobiographical memory triggers in performance creation and reception; * the journey from learning to memory in performance training; * the relationship between memory, awareness and creative spontaneity, and * memorization and embodied or structural analysis of scores and scripts. This volume provides an unprecedented resource for scientists, scholars, artists, teachers and students looking for insight into the cognition of memory in the arts, strategies of learning and performance, and interdisciplinary research methodology.
