Don't look down and don't give up. Justin Oberman's credo for living his adventurous-some might say death-defying-life to the max served him well until the unfortunate outcome of a climb made him walk away from the sport he loved. A lucrative new job offer could pave the way to a more traditional life in Marietta, Montana, where his two best friends have fallen in love with the women of their dreams. But settling down always seemed more daunting than Everest and not worth considering until a mysterious lady in red walks into his life on New Year's Eve. Suddenly, that happily-ever-after stuff Flynn and Tucker have been raving about looks within reach. The first fall is always the hardest. Nikki Magnesson Richards has loved Justin Oberman most of her life. First, from the safety of her brothers' old tree house. Later, with unrequited teen-age angst. Her poorly thought out attempt to get him to notice her cost them both dearly. Now, a dozen years later, her fairy godfather boss has orchestrated the most romantic meeting possible-the Big Sky Mavericks Masked Ball for Charity. A kiss at midnight with her very own Prince Charming isn't too much to ask, is it? But what are two star-crossed lovers supposed to do when one kiss isn't enough?

Montana has been blessed with incredible natural beauty, bountiful resources, and daring men and women: pioneers who dared to make this place their home. By 1863, there was a rapidly spreading awareness of rich discoveries of gold in what would become a part of the Montana Territory. This news became the primary impetus for the first major wave of immigration into the area. The disruptive economic, social, and cultural impact of the Civil War brought those who had been merchants, farmers, school teachers, lawyers and many other occupations in search of a new beginning. Montana's gold and untamed land became a magnet for people from not only the Northern and Southern states of American, but from dozens of countries. Montana became a collision point of people with different political beliefs, different social and cultural customs, and different languages, but all with a common dream. By presenting a balanced and accurate profile of the lives of some famous, some infamous, and some barely known men and women, the author seeks to preserve the stories of how an eclectic cross-section of men and women pursued their dream of a better life in early Montana. Each of the lives of these men and women are significant in term of what they did-for better or for worse-to shape and define the structure and character of Montana. While not each of the twelve individuals from early Montana history included in this book is necessarily worthy of emulation, they do represent examples of the generation that would create the trails which have become the highways we travel. They built Montana's first schools, churches, farms, ranches, mines and businesses. They would establish law and civil order, and lay the foundations of our state government. Every day, their lives touch those of us who call Montana home. We stand upon their shoulders.

This book presents a bird’s eye view of the transition of a segment of the Louisiana Purchase into the states of Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming. It offers historical data meshed with Western poetry, with each one of the book’s twentythree poems contributing a relevant insight. Topics covered include, among others, the Civil War in Montana, the “Big Die-Up” of 1886-1887, the myth and reality of the American West, and the end of the homesteading era. According to the author, Dakota is more than a collection of Western verse- it is a raft with twenty-three supporting logs that has skimmed o’er the river of Western history.

Rebel Lands Of Cuba written by Joanna Swanger and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-06 with History categories.

The book is a comparative history of twentieth-century Cuban campesinos in two regions in Cuba marked by extreme differences in race, gender, and land tenure: Oriente and Escambray. It explores the ways these differences articulated with state formation from the pre-revolutionary period of 1934-1959 and then 1959-1974 and seeks to explain why campesinos in Escambray, having been active in the insurrection against Batista, later turned to stage a massive counter-revolution against the government headed by Fidel Castro. Although campesinos in both regions had been equally ignored by pre-1959 governments for different reasons, they developed two distinct understandings of what the role of the state should be in response to political neglect. Rich archival sources—many of which have not been accessed previously—document the unique shape of land struggles in each region in the 1930s through the 1950s. The author argues that because of the way race and gender and a collectivist land tenure tradition in Oriente mapped nicely onto the goals of the 1959 Revolution, Oriente became a kind of revolutionary showcase. In Escambray, on the other hand, a construct of white masculinity, tied to private property ownership, directly contravened the goals of the Revolution, which fueled the counter-revolution and also led to brutal state repression in the area.
