A Lifetime To Get Here written by Cynthia Claus and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-02 with categories.

A Lifetime to Get Here: San Miguel de Allende, the first in a series of two, was created from the author's almost-daily blogs about visiting San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, for increasing amounts of time and in different seasons, spanning winter 2009 to the conclusion of 2012. The culmination of those years was the sale of her house in her fourth-generation hometown of Philadelphia and her permanent settlement in Mexico. It is a unique combination of travel memoir, how-to guide for the first-time visitor, the occasional lesson in Mexican history or culture, a Spanish grammar lesson or two, an answer to Stateside friends' questions of "What do you do in Mexico?", as well as honest, introspective reactions to what the older American author experiences as she navigates this unknown territory on her own. Lovingly-maintained vintage family photos of trips to Mexico decades ago and the author's own carefully-curated photos from more recent years punctuate and add richness to the text.

On a visit to Mexico, Bekka, a mature American woman meets a mysterious silver-haired Mexican Man at a nightclub in Puerto Vallarta. The brief one-night liaison results in the greatest sex she ever had. She wanted more, but he was gone. In her search for him through the dating website, she encountered him, she discovers that from the very same evening with him, two other women he met; Rebe and Susana. Jealous of them until she finds out that she was the only lover that night. The three women become very quick friends and decide to help Bekka find him. It was more than just the passionate sex; it was the emotional, spiritual connection she felt with him. He belonged to her, and she wanted to be with him. She couldn't explain why she felt that way, and Rebe and Susana couldn't figure why they felt close to Bekka. The three ladies begin to experience strange dreams and feelings toward each other, a drawing of souls toward one another. They hatch a plot to meet him again, unknowingly throwing them into a new beautiful but dark world, a world that only a few know truly exists. The world of the vampire, or vampiro. Demetrio, as they discovered was different from other vampires. He could walk in the day, and he could age. He was 'A child of the light' a white vampire. Their only weakness was the full moon, but his family had a remedy for that a beautiful pendant that he wore. Bekka had hoped to be with him, but as much as he wanted to explore that possibility, he told her the truth - his heart belonged to another. Someone that was once close to him, had now, returned. He was anxious to meet her again and had to leave. He left the three in the care of his faithful servant Sister Helga. The Sister would help the three discover their new emerging powers that they had gained from his bite. She would inform them of the many future dangers they faced and a name. The one name that would toss their lives in a deeper dark hole - that they could never climb out - Rose.

'NDiaye is a hypnotic storyteller with an unflinching understanding of the rock-bottom reality of most people's life.' New York Times ' One of France's most exciting prose stylists.' The Guardian. Obsessed by her encounters with the mysterious green women, and haunted by the Garonne River, a nameless narrator seeks them out in La Roele, Paris, Marseille, and Ouagadougou. Each encounter reveals different aspects of the women; real or imagined, dead or alive, seductive or suicidal, driving the narrator deeper into her obsession, in this unsettling exploration of identity, memory and paranoia. Self Portrait in Green is the multi-prize winning, Marie NDiaye's brilliant subversion of the memoir. Written in diary entries, with lyrical prose and dreamlike imagery, we start with and return to the river, which mirrors the narrative by posing more questions than it answers.
