Eyke Isensee liefert mit seiner Untersuchung die erste umfassende Darstellung des Justiz-Bildes im Spielfilm der NS-Zeit. Den Autor interessieren in diesem Zusammenhang vor allem diejenigen Filme, die viele Jahrzehnte als ideologisch unbelastet galten und deswegen teilweise bis in die jüngste Vergangenheit eine unkritische Rezeption erfahren haben. Neben exemplarischen Filmen der heiteren wie ernsten Unterhaltungssparte (u. a. "Mazurka", "Schlußakkord", "Sensationsprozeß Casilla", "Der Fall Deruga" oder "Der Maulkorb") und einem Blick auf die Propagandafilme "Jud Süß" und "Ich klage an" finden vor allem "Der Gasmann" (1943/44) und "Der Verteidiger hat das Wort" (1941) ausführliche Berücksichtigung – beides Filme, die durch Publikumslieblinge wie Heinz Rühmann und Heinrich George in den Hauptrollen seinerzeit für eine breite Rezeption gesorgt hatten. Isensee fragt danach, wie die Justiz in diesen Werken dargestellt und welche Funktion ihr in den Filmen zugeordnet wurde, wie sehr filmpolitische Entscheidungen das Justiz-Bild im Spielfilm beeinflussten und wie im Abgleich damit die tatsächliche Entwicklung des Justizsystems in der NS-Zeit aussah. Zwischen filmischem Zerrbild und historischer Praxis sucht Isensee die Wirkungsabsichten dieser Filme zu rekonstruieren und schafft damit den Boden, auf dem eine kritische, medienwissenschaftliche Reflexion stattfinden kann.
