"How great it was to have been able to read your writing - Touching sensitive emotional thoughtful immensely moving personal enthralling gripping sad pathetic ghastly in its detail critical of the awfulness of the establishment a tremendous insight into a mind disturbed." - Howard Swan Wilson was on the verge of a professional sporting career when World War 1 started. Eventually he was sent to the Front, under-trained and ill equipped. There he experienced the horrors and deprivations of trench warfare. Unable to cope he had a breakdown and ran away. Whilst being nursed back to health by a young French widow, he is recaptured and, during an eventful journey back to Belgium for his Court Martial, he forms a friendship with his captor. This was to have great significance in the future. The dramatic events before, during and after the Court Martial provide a gripping finale. In More Than Just A Life the author weaves a dramatic story that deals with the highly emotive aspect of the ordeal of the ordinary soldier, the wanton loss of young lives and the harsh discipline of the Army. 50% of any profits from sales will be donated to the Royal Marsden Hospital in recognition of the treatment for the author's wife when she had cancer. AH from Devon - A very sad story and the graphic pictures you painted of warfare in the trenches if ever filmed would make Saving Private Ryan seem tame by comparison. Well done! Mr Cheesman from Surrey - Nine out of ten I like the twist in the tail! When will the sequel be available? Mr N Russell - one of those that you couldn't put down - thoroughly enjoyed it!

'A great celebration of one of our most loved national treasures' Felicity Kendal The term 'national treasure' has seldom been more appropriate. Richard Briers was not only the nation's favourite next-door neighbour thanks to his work in the iconic BBC sitcom The Good Life, he was an actor you felt like you really knew, despite having only seen him on stage or screen. While his role as Tom Good might be considered the pinnacle of Richard's sixty-year career, it sits atop a mountain of roles that combined represent one of the most productive and varied careers in British entertainment history. Indeed, Richard's television work alone makes up a not insignificant portion of our country's best endeavours on the small screen, from Jackanory and the anarchic Roobarb and Custard through to Dr Who, Inspector Morse, Ever Decreasing Circles, Extras, and the long-running comedy drama, Monarch of the Glen. On the big screen Richard appeared alongside Raquel Welch, Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Kathy Bates and Michael Keaton, and he even taught Keanu Reeves how to act like Sir Henry Irving. But it was on the stage where Richard felt most at home as, in addition to testing him as an actor, it would often satisfy his passion for taking risks. Appearances in the West End were often interspersed with pantomime seasons or a world tour playing King Lear alongside Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. He was, as he always described himself, 'just a jobbing actor'. Anecdote-rich, this revealing but celebratory book will also lift the lid on the stories behind the shows, films and plays that made up this extraordinarily prolific career, not to mention Richard's working and personal relationships with many of his best-known collaborators and co-stars.

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER "Provocative and appealing . . . well worth your extremely limited time." —Barbara Spindel, The Wall Street Journal The average human lifespan is absurdly, insultingly brief. Assuming you live to be eighty, you have just over four thousand weeks. Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem: the challenge of how best to use our four thousand weeks. Drawing on the insights of both ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists, and spiritual teachers, Oliver Burkeman delivers an entertaining, humorous, practical, and ultimately profound guide to time and time management. Rejecting the futile modern fixation on “getting everything done,” Four Thousand Weeks introduces readers to tools for constructing a meaningful life by embracing finitude, showing how many of the unhelpful ways we’ve come to think about time aren’t inescapable, unchanging truths, but choices we’ve made as individuals and as a society—and that we could do things differently.

What will your 100-year life look like? A new edition of the international bestseller, featuring a new preface 'Brilliant, timely, original, well written and utterly terrifying' Niall Ferguson Does the thought of working for 60 or 70 years fill you with dread? Or can you see the potential for a more stimulating future as a result of having so much extra time? Many of us have been raised on the traditional notion of a three-stage approach to our working lives: education, followed by work and then retirement. But this well-established pathway is already beginning to collapse – life expectancy is rising, final-salary pensions are vanishing, and increasing numbers of people are juggling multiple careers. Whether you are 18, 45 or 60, you will need to do things very differently from previous generations and learn to structure your life in completely new ways. The 100-Year Life is here to help. Drawing on the unique pairing of their experience in psychology and economics, Lynda Gratton and Andrew J. Scott offer a broad-ranging analysis as well as a raft of solutions, showing how to rethink your finances, your education, your career and your relationships and create a fulfilling 100-year life. · How can you fashion a career and life path that defines you and your values and creates a shifting balance between work and leisure? · What are the most effective ways of boosting your physical and mental health over a longer and more dynamic lifespan? · How can you make the most of your intangible assets – such as family and friends – as you build a productive, longer life? · In a multiple-stage life how can you learn to make the transitions that will be so crucial and experiment with new ways of living, working and learning? Shortlisted for the FT/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award and featuring a new preface, The 100-Year Life is a wake-up call that describes what to expect and considers the choices and options that you will face. It is also fundamentally a call to action for individuals, politicians, firms and governments and offers the clearest demonstration that a 100-year life can be a wonderful and inspiring one.

Just Life written by Mary C. Rawlinson and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-01 with Philosophy categories.

Just Life reorients ethics and politics around the generativity of mothers and daughters rather than the right to property and the sexual proprieties of the oedipal drama. Invoking two concrete universals—everyone is born of a woman and everyone needs to eat—Rawlinson rethinks labor and food as relationships that make ethical claims and sustain agency. Just Life counters the capitalization of bodies under biopower with the solidarity of sovereign bodies.

All of this is based on, the day I got hit by a car. The things I’d personally, witnessed as, each one. Literally, fell into play around me. All that’d both, before and after it’d taken place. Which, I will explain rather distinctly as , chapter one progresses itself. Such as, the many things I’d witnessed falling into play as, it took place around me. Things like, trying to figure out what every event meant. How I managed to live and deal with them. My observations towards the attitudes it’d aroused around me while moving forwards non-stop. I’ve tried to bring my words as close as, I can. Towards recreating and developing what I’d witnessed. Not to mention what I both, felt and experienced along the way. Heck, until now. No ones ever been willing. To personally, voice their own opinions. Towards what something like, this. Is, really like to live through. Just that alone, makes my doing so. Almost like, a first time thing. Yea, I’ve always been kind of, person. That’d seemed to, have all the little kid habits down pat. The only difference is, that this one. Would completely change my life from that, point on!
