Diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2008, Chris Todd tells the story of this period of his life in diary form. It is a personal, honest and often humorous account of a leukaemia sufferer's battle with this life-threatening disease, and also of Chris's career as a whole. As the weeks and months go by, Toddy relates what can only be described as an epic journey: being told his football career would have to be put on hold; his failure to regain a place in the Torquay United team on his return to action; his loan spell to Salisbury and subsequent return to Torquay; getting back to the first team and then topping-off a truly remarkable few months by gaining promotion to League Two with the Gulls with their victory over Cambridge at Wembley. This book, though, is about more than football. Todd explains, in great detail, the effects the disease had not only on his football career, but other aspects of his life, especially in terms of his immediate family and friends – not least his wife Gemma. He never looks for sympathy – instead he aims to inspire. They say football is a game of two halves: well so is life.

The spitting image of his famous father, Morgan McLachlan is a blond-haired, country musicloving, high school quarterback growing up in a small Southern town where his daddys memory reigns supreme. As North River High School in Brantley, Mississippi, longs for a return to its football glory days, Morgan often feels destined to live his life stuck in the shadow of someone elses dream. In a town holding out for a hero, Morgan navigates friendship, love, loss, and along the way, he learns lessons about all three from the father he tragically never met, the father who raised him to always point to the blood, and the only Father who can hear Morgans cries in his darkest hour.

The modern game of football is filled with plays and formations with names like the Counter Trey, the Wildcat, the Zone Blitz and the Cover Two. They have become part of the sport's vernacular, and yet for many fans they remain just names, often confusing ones. To rectify that, Tim Layden has drilled deep into the core of the game to reveal not only how these chalkboard X's and O's really work on the field, but also where they came from and who dreamed them up. These playbook schemes, many of them illuminated by diagrams, bear the insignia of some of the game's great innovators, men like Vince Lombardi, Don Coryell, Tom Osborne, Bill Walsh, Tony Dungy and Buddy Ryan. But football has also been radically altered by the ingenious work of men with more obscure names, like Tiger Ellison, Emory Bellard and Mouse Davis. In Blood, Sweat and Chalk, Layden takes readers into the meeting rooms-and in some cases the living rooms-where the game's most significant ideas were hatched. He goes to the coaches and to the players who inspired them, and lets them tell their stories. In candid conversations with some of football's most intriguing characters, Layden provides a fascinating guide to the game, helping fans to better see the subtleties of America's favorite sport.

Tommy McLean made history as a player and a manager, but behind the triumph is an untold story. As one-third of Scottish football's best-known team of brothers, McLean sampled the incredible highs. He became a Rangers legend as an integral part of the European Cup Winners' Cup-winning team in 1972 and as a mainstay of Jock Wallace's treble-winning heroes in the years that followed. As a manager he took Motherwell from the brink of bankruptcy to victory in the Scottish Cup final and European football. That memorable triumph is however tinged with pain for McLean, who faced his brother Jim's Dundee United in the cup final just days after the death of their father. And there was further personal turmoil behind the scenes during that momentous game, a story McLean reflects on publicly for the first time. The years that followed have been filled with further joys and sorrows, including a tumultuous spell in charge of Hearts, a controversial six-day spell as manager of Raith Rovers, and a time as manager of Dundee United under the chairmanship of his older brother, Jim.He was also recruited by David Murray to head up Rangers' youth system, but stepped away from football to concentrate on more important family matters. Here in his exclusive book, Tommy McLean tells all, making Football in the Blood a must-read for any football fan.

This book "explores the legacy of black college football, taking as its central figure one of the most successful coaches in its history, Jake Gaither. A paradoxical figure, he was leader of the most feared and respected black college football program in the country, and yet many questioned his racial loyalties during the height of the civil rights movement"--

In the golden years of professional football, one team and one coach reigned supreme: the 1960s Green Bay Packers, and the fiery Vince Lombardi. Run to Daylight! is Lombardi’s own diary of a week at the helm of that magnificent club. Together with legendary sports-journalist, W.C. Heinz, Lombardi takes us from the first review of game films on Monday right through the final gun on Sunday afternoon. We see the planning, the plotting, the practice and the pain as forty-plus men come together to form that precision unit that makes for winning football. Lombardi gives us his views on life, the game, coaching, success, family, and the famed “Lombardi Sweep.” Now, in this anniversary edition, with a special foreword by David Maraniss, we are once again reminded of the passion and power behind America's greatest game. Written in W.C. Heinz’s inimitable style, Run to Daylight! is part diary, part philosophy text, part coaches manual. Here, is professional football at its best.

Working Class Boy written by Jimmy Barnes and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-01 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

A household name, an Australian rock icon, the elder statesman of Ozrock - there isn't an accolade or cliche that doesn't apply to Jimmy Barnes. But long before Cold Chisel and Barnesy, long before the tall tales of success and excess, there was the true story of James Dixon Swan - a working class boy whose family made the journey from Scotland to Australia in search of a better life. Working Class Boy is a powerful reflection on a traumatic and violent childhood, which fuelled the excess and recklessness that would define, but almost destroy, the rock'n'roll legend. This is the story of how James Swan became Jimmy Barnes. It is a memoir burning with the frustration and frenetic energy of teenage sex, drugs, violence and ambition for more than what you have. Raw, gritty, compassionate, surprising and darkly funny - Jimmy Barnes's childhood memoir is at once the story of migrant dreams fulfilled and dashed. Arriving in Australia in the Summer of 1962, things went from bad to worse for the Swan family - Dot, Jim and their six kids. The scramble to manage in the tough northern suburbs of Adelaide in the 60s would take its toll on the Swans as dwindling money, too much alcohol, and fraying tempers gave way to violence and despair. This is the story a family's collapse, but also a young boy's dream to escape the misery of the suburbs with a once-in-a-lifetime chance to join a rock'n'roll band and get out of town for good.
